I spent some time today at the kennels, still very strange without any dog's. I managed to sort a lot of paperwork out as it was so very quiet. Arry came to keep me company, even he was confused! Although he had the run of the kennels he decided that the bed in the office was the best place to be :))

I went to get Pepper McNuggets food and water bowls from the aviary, no egg....until I went back with fresh food and water, low and behold there she was in her bed, she got up and hey presto one lovely blue egg and still warm. She was very talkative and enjoyed the company I think.

I checked on Bob, he is in good spirits, hope enjoys the couple of dinners I took him.

Hope you are all staying safe and well, the sooner this 'thing' is under control the sooner we can resume normal service. Lots of our lovely volunteers are missing coming in,I have spoken to a few, we are after all a family...the Daybreaks Family

Take care everyone. Jo x

Hi guys, is the sand run still open for use? I have been taking my greys on walks for 2-3 hrs daily round where I live which they absolutely love but one of mine is very energetic with a high prey drive and I feel a good run would do him good!!! I am only in Marston Green so about a 5 min drive from the kennels, do you think I am allowed to drive there (alone with the dogs) and if so are you still running the slots? Regards. Hilary x

Hi Dave yes Mark knows how you feel but its been a lot harder for him to accept he's been basically in isolation since Jan after his shoulder operation and just as he's starting to be allowed out he's told he's got to stop in,Be strong Dave hopefully it will all be back to normal soon and just enjoy that extra 1 to 1 time with Maisie,Tanya,Mark,Nifty,Cilla n Flo xx

Hi Dave, try and learn some meditation techniques online and set a structure to your day with set times for getting up, eating, walking Maisie, household tasks, bed etc. Thinking of you. Xxx

Hi Dave, was thinking about you & Maisiemoo funnily enough today. Like Ruth, no chance to be bored with my 3 boys & house & garden to look after. Am in process of losing all my work sadly so a very worrying time but with my 3 its constant cleaning, washing, walking etc etc. I have loads of projects to get on with & am trying to eat better by cooking etc. Spoke to Jo yday. She must have forgotten me today....she was going to tell me when we could come to sand run. We all had a lovely hrs walk instead. The village is wonderfully quiet. I wish it was like this forever. Maybe you can learn to cook a bit more, make some nice homemade snacks for maisiemoo. I have nice recipes if you want. Dont know if you like tv but again I have 660 hrs worth of stuff recorded to watch!! Plenty of books to read as well. I am sorry you feel bored. I do think being housebound is much easier for women then men. Human nature dictates that generally women get on with home stuff. Keep positive......it wont last forever. Every day that dawns is a day towards the end & a return to normality. Look after yourselves. Seana, Melly, Teddy & Fergal xxx

Why don't you take Maisie up to the sand run - you are both allowed out and you could give it a rake at the same time!!!!.... you did ask!!!!! x

ps let me know if you do, as I have taken bookings and to avoid contact with others - just whatsapp me x

Hi Lewisfuggie & Liz_beth, Thank you very much for your help responses - I am really grateful. I will call Ruth first thing tomorrow then to see if she still has any bags available and if so if she could pretty please save one for me!!! I understand they are probably in demand and she may not have any left now but worth a try .... Thank you Liz_beth for your reccommendation of ordering through Zooplus, I have this evening ordered three bags from them, they are not due until a week Monday but if I do manage to get some from Daybreaks I should be able to last :) Thanks so much and to all of you stay safe and take care. It's been very strange not being at the kennels today. I really miss being there with the dogs. On the upside, I have spent time at home with the furry five! They have in turn over the past couple of days come in to the garden and spent some time on their beds in the sun. I have sat out too enjoying the fresh air and have managed to get lots of washing done!! Not that sure they enjoyed having their nails trimmed, actually me neither, not my favourite task!

Hoping you and your hounds are all well and safe. Take care. Jo xx

@Lulu'smom I buy my burns from zooplus.co.uk. Just looked and it is in stock. I recommend DPD as your best delivery option. Delivery 8-9 days at moment if you can at least get one bag from kennels and wait that long.

Hi Daybreaks Ruth, I have completely run out of Burns Pet food for my five greys and whippet! I have been trying to find it online but all of the stores have either run out completely or are not processing orders currently. I also ideally need at least three bags of the stuff as can't be without..... I can't seem to find any left in the supermarkets or pet stores locally to me and obviously we can't venture too far at the moment in search for it! I was just wondering if Burns is what you stocked at Daybreaks and whether I would be able to purchase some? Thankyou xx

Andy and I popped to the kennels yesterday afternoon to collect items ordered from our web shop and to pack away the delivery of Burns that had arrived! We have 20 bags in stock currently so if you need food please call 0121 782 7702. I will be at the kennels between 10am and 11.30 today for collection. Our webshop can be found at https://daybreaks.selz.com/

Tiggy and Momma came with with us and had a great time in the sand run. The run remains open and sessions can be booked and paid for by calling the kennels. We are booking slots an hour apart so you shouldn’t come into contact with anyone!

Kate popped up to the kennels and we did a stock take over the phone first thing and to see Tyke and Socks our resident cats off on their holiday.... thank you so much Sue and now our only resident on site is Miss Pepper (aka McNugget) who laid her first egg in months! She must be enjoying the peace and quiet!

For those of you who know Bob who owns The kennels, he remains in good health. Remember we are at the end of the phone if you need anything x

Our two beautiful pussy cats Socks and Tyke went off to stay with Aunty Sue and Uncle John this morning. They usually stay with them at Christmas so it's like home from home for them. :) Will really miss them. :( Xxx

We have one remaining resident at the kennels, Pepper, Ruth's Chicken. I am very fond of this little bundle of brown feathers! She amazed me this morning by producing a lovely pale blue egg! She hasn't done that for nearly twelve months...Bless her! Xx

Lyra had a great time today, no dogs around so she was free to run in and out of the runs and lay on a bed in the sunshine. :)

I did some cleaning and tidying....really hope it won't be too long before we can welcome new Greyhounds back into Daybreaks. Xxx

Keep safe and well everyone. Xxx

I popped to the kennels this morning to collect some stuff, feed the cats and our resident chicken, Pepper (aka McNuggets)! Sorry Ruth. X

It was eerily quiet, I am so used to hear the exciting barking of the dogs when they hear the gate open. As Kate said, Christmas foster is very different. So soul destroying that we have no dog's in :(((

I really don't know what else to say apart from stay safe and well, look after yourselves and your precious hounds, and thanks to everyone who has been in and helped. You are all amazing and hope you are all well. Jo xx

Yesterday at the kennels, as Kate said, I felt numb... seeing empty kennels when we have so many who should be there, is just heartbreaking.

With regard to buying food, we do still have limited stock at the kennels so don’t panic! If you need some we will arrange pick up times with you as we are not on site now.

I have just spoken to the warehouse who have no Burns in stock currently. However I have 20 sacks arriving direct from Burns in a couple of days. If you need food, please call 0121 7827702. We can deliver too to help you stay in and safe x

It was a day of very mixed emotions today...it was great to see our final three girls going off to their new homes but after Queenie left it was as if she took the last breath away from the kennels. It was so very quiet.
:(( It's different when we foster all the dogs out at Christmas, it's a special time of year and we know it's only for a couple of weeks before some of them return or new girls and boys arrive. This time we have no idea how long it will be before we are once again greeted each morning by happy, beautiful Greyhounds ready to start a new chapter of their lives. Xxx

We are so grateful to everyone who has adopted or fostered over the last few days. Thank you so much for your patience at the really busy times. We really hope you enjoy getting to know your new friend and family member! :))))

We were hoping to be able to take in a few more dogs this week but after yesterday's message from the Government we decided it wasn't the right thing to do at this time. :(

There is a plus side! Many have unexpected extra time to spend with their dogs, I'm sure they will appreciate seeing more of you! :)) If anything can make things seem a little brighter it is the love of a special
Greyhound or two or three......

Thanks so much to Dave and Declan for their help today and to Ruth for having the calls again! :))

Sending lots of love to everyone, stay safe and well. Xxx

Another busy day, Penny and Lou went off to their new homes and little Susie has been fostered! Xxx

Shirley and Richard went off to the warehouse and managed to find a few more bags of food, bless them! Thank you so much. Xxx

Although we only had six dogs in we were unable to go for walks today. Dave took some in the sand run and the others had time out playing with toys in the kennel runs.

On a much brighter note, Phil (Rio and Ella's Dad) was sponsored by his workmates to make sausage sandwiches for our residents :)) He did a wonderful job and wow did they love them!! As we didn't have a full house they had them for breakfast and brunch. :)) Thanks so much Phil!
Phil his wife Sylvia also donated lots of boxes of goodies which included toilet rolls! :))) We are so grateful. Xxx

A big thank you to Dave for all his hard work today and to Ruth who had the phone calls all day! Xxxxxx

Our three remaining residents were all tucked up with a dentastix tonight. :))

A busy morning today, Dice has gone out on foster (I've heard that before, well I've been there, done that and failed....twice)!!

The handsome Joey and Billy, now Cam went off to their respective new homes. Two very lucky hounds indeed. X

Never mind stockpiling, hoarding and panic buying groceries, the greyhounds are flying out, our shelves will soon be empty!!!

Thanks to everyone who came in and helped out, your support is amazing. I can only see us having fewer volunteers coming in understandably due to the current crisis. Please keep checking the website for updates on the kennels situation.

Please all take care, stay safe and hopefully normal service will be resumed soon.

Had an absolutely fabulous time up at the kennels for a short while yesterday and met Kelly’s new owner who is one of our volunteers. As a home check was required a WhatsApp video call later that afternoon was done.... the power of technology!!!

As Kate mentioned, we are running low on food and we urge people to restrict to one bag when buying. Also the kennels will only be open for those booking an appointment. In view of the recommended lockdown, I urge the vulnerable and elderly not to visit... if you desperately need food we can possibly arrange delivery... please call the kennels if you need help regarding anything x

What an incredible day! Really crazy but by 5 O'clock this evening we had Misty and Ed homed, Kelly, Lady 2, Billy reserved and Lady 1, Nell and Dice fostered!...Dice will be going out tomorrow. :)))

Little Susie is our only resident to find herself looking for a home or foster home. :( Maybe tomorrow! Xxx

Thanks you so much to everyone who called regarding fostering one of our Greyhounds. The response was fantastic, I think the last count was 21 with one more to be added to the list from a call I took on the way home. It is wonderful to know there are still people who care. Xxxx
We are waiting for confirmation regarding a date for the installation of the fire alarm system, so we will be taking more dogs into the kennels from the waiting list who will need foster homes whilst the work is being undertaken.

Ruth popped in for a while this morning, she is looking so much better! Despite our protests she insisted on "doing stuff" before Andy managed to drag her off home. :)))) Xxx

We had lots of visitors for food today so consequently we have only a few bags left. We will hopefully be making another trip to the warehouse next week. It might be worth calling the kennels before setting off to check what we have left in stock. Xx

Thank you to all our great volunteers today :)) It was a busy day for us all.

It was lovely to see the sunshine today, I even managed to hang out some washing on the line for a good flap in the breeze.

This morning, as we were a bit short of help, I took some of our more energetic residents for a play in the sand run, whilst our lovely volunteers took the rest for a walk. Penny really enjoyed her romp around, she does love to play! Kelly also had a blast, racing up & down at top speed - it was a bit hairy on occasions though as she came hurtling straight towards me, smiling as she ran - you learn to move sideways very quickly!!!

This morning saw my sweet Lou reserved again - so happy for her and keeping everything crossed that things work out for her this time.

Nell is recovering well after her op yesterday, and our 2 new girls are so sweet. Misty is a little unsettled still, but Susie seems fine. She really is tiny though as the lead was almost too big for her neck even down on its last hole!

We had more help this afternoon so all the boys & girls could enjoy a lovely walk in the sunshine.

A big thank you to all our volunteers who are continuing to help us take care of our boys & girls.

Well, another weekend upon us and it is shaping up to be a busy one with several viewings booked, so keep everything crossed. I shall be raising my glass both to Team Daybreaks (staff, volunteers & supporters) and our current residents - as they said during WW2 (well, almost!) "stay calm - and carry on caring for the Greyhounds".

Take care all.

Cheers - Angie xx

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Have you adopted from us before?

If you have, and you think you could offer a foster home for a short period, we would be very grateful.

We are due to have the new fire alarm system installed in the next few weeks - the date is to be confirmed shortly - and this would involve the kennels being out of use whilst this is done.

Of course with the added stress of the Corona Virus we are unsure of your response...... so if you think you can help, please call the kennels on 0121 782 7702 and speak to Jo or Kate.

I am really sorry that if you haven't adopted from us before, as we are unable to carry out home visits, we would not be able to let you foster. Many thanks Ruth

Please do not send any messages or emails as we are already inundated - please just call the landline number which diverts to a mobile and your call will be answered.

The kennels will remain open for purchase of food but this is now limited to a collection time of between 10.30am - 12.30pm

Alan and Declan went to the warehouse. Fortunately although no toilet rolls were found, they were able to stock up on the more important things to a Greyhound such as food! :))

Thanks to everyone who came in to help today. We are so grateful. The weather wasn't brilliant again but we managed morning and afternoon walks....it's good to hear that even the Corona Virus can't stop us from walking our dogs. Xxx

It was Nells turn to be neutered today. Thanks so much to Richard and Lucy for taking her. She was very sleepy when I picked her up this afternoon. Her kennel mate Kelly missed her today. Xxx

Tears falling at such sad news. My heart is crying for you Denise.

If it should be that I grow weak, and pain should keep me from my sleep, then you must do what must be done, for this last battle can not be won.
You will be sad, I understand, don't let your grief then stay your hand, for this day more than all the rest, your love for me must stand the test. We've had so many happy years, what is to come can hold no fears, you'd not want me to suffer so, the time has come please let me go. Take me to where my needs they'll tend, and please stay with me until the end, hold me firm and speak to me, until my eyes no longer see. Please do not grieve, it must be you who has this painful thing to do, we've been so close, we two these years, don't let your heart hold back the tears.

RIP Charlie, run free brave boy. Much love, Seana, Melly, Teddy & Fergal xxx

Thanks to all our dedicated volunteers who came in to help today. I truly was taken aback at how many people turned up under the current circumstances. Again, thank you all so much.

Dasher update, he is great! He has settled very well, thanks to his 'grandparents' Alan and Myra (sorry guys) for showing just how settled he is!

There were lots of calls to see if we're still open, until we are advised otherwise it is business as usual. Please check the site for daily updates.

Kate is thankfully feeling much better, so hopefully tomorrow normal service will be resumed!!

There were another couple of viewings this afternoon, fingers crossed and watch this space....

Finally, we also had the very sad news that Charlie Cheesecake, a regular Wednesday fixture of Daybreaks with Denise his mum crossed over Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. We had lots of lovely volunteers today, so morning and afternoon walks were done, this mornings walks were rather soggy! Thanks all.

Thanks too to Paul who took Lady out for the day to the Stratford walk with his boy Ringo. Apparently she was fantastic...hmm I wonder if Ringo would like a sister???

It started with a visit from Caro looking for a companion for Lottie who has been a little down after Jed crossed rainbow bridge. Lottie met handsome lad Joey, she wasn't even bothered when they came into the office and he decided to rest his head on her back...so very sweet. So that resulted in the first reservation of the day.

Next was big cuddle monster Dasher who was signed up and went off home, all the very best to him and his family :)

Queenies turn next to be reserved, she really liked the family, I'm fairly sure she chose them!

I spoke to the owners of both Blue and Paddy. They both had very settled nights and have been very good. So pleased for them both.

There were several visitors for food....thankfully no panic buying or stockpiling yet!!!

Sadly our Mother's day prosecco lunch has been postponed, as Angie has already mentioned we will give a new date once things start to settle.

Take care all, stay warm and well. Jo x

We have a slight technical hitch with the photos on the website, particularly the homing photos. Please don't panic and think the new owners don't want their pictures on there. If you click on the dog you are looking at and scroll down the photos you will see their lovely family homing photo at the end. Hopefully this problem will be resolved soon!

It was lovely to see Paddy and Blue go off to their respective homes, good luck lads. X

Another homing tomorrow for a very lucky hound and viewings booked...so fingers crossed. It is so very rewarding to see them trot off to their new homes :))

Hoping Lady Victoria (Kate) is soon feeling better. Xx

Paddy is such an affectionate boy, we’ve had the usual pacing and panting but after a few short walks, some territory marking and afternoon tea, he has settled in his bed and is happily sleeping. Thanks to everyone at Daybreaks for your support we will send some pics, hugs to all the other hounds xoxo

Thought we would be thin on the ground today, but no. Lots of volunteers arrived to help out today!

Poor Ed got bitten yesterday so a vet trip this morning, thank you so much Tina & Ellis.
I had a a few Pampers and nail clips, lovely to see homed hounds. Dasher is all bathed and ready to go tomorrow. The inmates got both walks today and the sand run was fully booked.

It was lovely to see Paddy and Blue off to their new homes :) xx

CORONA VIRUS INFORMATION AND PRECAUTIONS
Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that affect humans and animals’ respiratory systems.

There are no specific treatments for coronavirus infection, so preventing the virus is very important.

Symptoms to look out for include: Runny nose/ Headache/ Cough/ Sore throat/Fever/A general feeling of being unwell

Wash your hands frequently
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain social distancing
Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Practice respiratory hygiene
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Please do not enter the kennels should you suspect you have the virus or have been unwell over the last 2 weeks. Should you require assistance, please call the kennels and we can assist you with purchase of food or other requests.
We have gloves available for visitors and volunteers to use as a precaution and hand washing facilities and gel are available.

We were a bit thin on the ground today but the boys & girls did get a nice walk this morning. We decided to take them into the sand run this afternoon, but rain - or should I say a torrential downpour and a hailstorm - stopped play!!

New boy Joey is very handsome and is settling well, sadly Lady2 is still quite stressed but she does enjoy her food and wolfs it down so that is good. Hopefully she will soon start to relax.

Dice's head is healing nicely, and he is still a bouncy boy. I checked the perimeter for squirrels before we stepped out because he still likes to look out for them!!

Ed had a visit from his new Mum this morning, they are very excited to take him home soon.

Another weekend is upon us, and my glass tonight will be raised to all our lovely boys & girls - may forever homes soon be theirs. x

Take care all - cheers.

We had lots of help today :)) Norman took Joey to the park and all the other girls and boys enjoyed walks in the sun although it was a little chilly...where is spring??

Alan and Declan had a trip to the warehouse and actually found toilet rolls :) but no hand wash...

Many thanks to everyone who popped in with bedding and items for our donation table. So very kind of you.

And of course a big Thursday thank you to Alan and Paddy for the donuts!

Dasher was very bright and bouncy this morning :) Ed was also feeling a little better today. He gave his normal morning greeting bark when we arrived :)) He still has a lump under his chin but it's not so big. He has a check up with the vet tomorrow.

It was great to see Penny reserved today. We all fell in love with her soon to be new brother...Bear, a nine month old Husky cross. What a lovely boy he is, Penny thought so to! :)) To see them race around the sand run together was fab! :) Xx

It was really quite warm today and for the first time in months walks were done without coats! I'm sure the dogs must get fed up of wearing them all the time. Fingers crossed it will continue to get warmer. :)

We are expecting two new arrivals tomorrow! :))

Thank you so much to everyone for their help today. :))

Dashing Dasher went to the vets this morning for his neutering operation. Ruth had popped into the kennels first thing, so she and Andy's Dad very kindly dropped Dasher off at the vets and I collected him this evening. He had to have a bigger operation than normal for the boys as he had only one testicle showing. So the poor lad had to be opened up to look for the other one! All good it was found and removed.
:) He was quite happy when I collected him. We met Katie with Monty, her lovely Greyhound. He also met a little Shitzu called Maisie. :) Xxx

Both Ed and Blue were reserved today! :)). The family who visited Saturday and Sunday finally settled on Ed and offered him a forever home with them. :)) Xxx

Thanks so much to all who came to help today. It turned out to be a rather cold and wet day...sorry Jo your washing got a little wet out on the line!

Thank you for your kind words all. These fur babies do break our hearts dont they? Shanishoo, I've never heard of it but apparently very common in cats so hoping none of my others get it. And yes seana, vinnies anniversary is next month, god bless them all. Hope you're all ok.
Yes i love Russell Watson and i saw him on dogs behaving badly once with the rescue dog he couldn't take to crufts. The poor thing (Sure its a lurcher type) was thrown out of a moving vehicle on the motorway and was obviously so traumatised but theyve had her and shes proper landed on her paws. At least there are kind people out there to help these animals and hopefully us kind ones out way the evil! Xxx

Dear Lucy,

I am so very sorry to hear about Otis. What a dreadful thing to happen, especially when so young. I know you will all be gutted. I do hope Jet will settle as I know they were besotted with each other. I know the 1st anniversary of your other rainbow bridge baby is soon. May they both be at peace. Well done russell Watson for his comments on crufts! Don't know if anyone watched, but he brought his retired greyhound is and was saying what a fabulous breed they were and how he recommends them to anyone, woop woop! God bless the rainbow bridge hounds jo has mentioned. We devastatingly lost our beautiful cat early hours this morning from a blood clot to the spine that came on in an instant but left him paralysed. He was only 6 and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go as he was in excruciating pain and the vets advised there was nothing they could do. Run free too our beautiful otis, we love you so so much xxxx

How lovely it was to see the sun shining today even if still a little chilly. I even managed to hang washing out to dry, ironically Steve came in to fix the tumble dryer...again! Thanks to him for sorting it out, how long it will last is anybody's guess (it is a little old)!

We had lots of lovely volunteers, so morning and afternoon walks were done and all inmates had extra cuddles.

It was quite busy for visitors, there were several bookings for sand run fun, nail clipping and Lorna had a pamper to do. Not sure Meg was at all happy and was quite keen to make a speedy exit when she was done.

Ed seems a bit happier, the swelling on his face is going down nicely, hasn't put him off his food. The antibiotics are taking their course.

Dice is none the worse for his accident yesterday. He was very bright and happy, although he does look a bit odd with a shaved strip on his head, pesky squirrels!

There were some viewings too. I have my fingers crossed that at least two of our residents may each have a red sign by the end of the week :)) There is potentially a further viewing tomorrow for one of them, although the family are building an ever increasing list of favourites and finding it very difficult to decide which will be the lucky hound.

It was a fantastic day yesterday for reservations and homings, let's keep it going. There are so many deserving greys looking for their forever homes. X

Thanks to everyone for their help today, I really appreciate it.

It has also been a week tinged with sadness, with news that some of our previous residents hove gained their angel wings and crossed Rainbow Bridge. Let them run fast and free.xx

It was a very busy day today which saw two homings and two reservations and another unscheduled trip to the vets!

Lola went home this morning. :)) She had been staying with us for a few days while her owner was in hospital. Many thanks to Alan who took her home. I know they have missed each other very much. Xx

Blue and Lou ( sounds like a well known toilet cleaner!) went to help out at the road show in Solihull town centre. They were both great. :)
On her return Lou found a lovely lady waiting to meet her and shortly after was reserved. :))

Dashing Dasher was reserved too! He has a wonderful home waiting for him. Xx

Trebles was signed up today. So very happy for him. He has a lovely new name Finn!

Stan also went off to his new home :) He couldn't wait to get in the car and even though he wasn't supposed to be sitting in the boot jumped in
as soon as it was open. :) We had to get him out again to get in the back of the car. Xxx

Dice had a little accident during his morning walk. He saw a squirrel on the other side of the fence and despite it being a metal gate he decided he could use his head to break though and ended up with a nasty cut right in the middle of his head!! Jess and Lauren very kindly took him over to the vets in Moseley to get it checked out. What a silly billy he was! Xxx

We had a lovely couple who came looking for a new member to add to their family after losing their Greyhound recently. They fell in love with most of the residents and just couldn't decide who to adopt :) They went home to think about it. We did try to get them to adopt everyone they liked! :))

I have seen the photos of Tiggy's visit to Crufts today. It looks like she had a brilliant time! :)) xx

Thank you so much to everyone for your help today. Without all our fabulous volunteers it would be impossible to keep the kennels going. :) Xx

What a glorious day it was today - the sun shone all day and it was so nice not to be cold & wet! It was almost like Spring this afternoon with the birds singing away in the trees, and buds appearing on the hedges and bushes. Our boys & girls enjoyed 2 walks in the lovely weather.

Jo was on Vet run duty again today as Queenie went off to be neutered.

Poor Mr Ed had an unscheduled trip to the Vet yesterday as he had a swelling come up on his jaw. He is now on pain relief and antibiotics for an infection, but he isn't letting this get him down. He enjoyed his extra mushy soft food and we had a lovely stroll round the sand run this afternoon as, due to the swelling, he can't wear a muzzle so can't go off site at the moment. x

It was Mr Dasher's 3rd birthday today, so we threw him a little party - well, he had a silly hat, a card and some treats in the feeding run so not much of a party but he did have fun!

Our 2 latest arrivals Nell & Kelly are settling well and are 2 very sweet girls.

The sand run was in almost constant use today - some of our visitors were here for Crufts and taking the opportunity to give their dogs some great off lead exercise in a safe and secure environment.

For the first time in what seems like forever, all the slabs around the kennels were actually dry - which meant Dave could give the place a lovely sweep through, it looked so nice when he had finished. I am now getting itchy fingers to get started on the post Winter spruce up, but it may still be a bit too soon!

Well the weekend is here again, and its a busy one too. We have our Mell Square Roadshow tomorrow, and also a certain Miss Tiggy is making a guest appearance at Crufts on the Burns stand, so pop along and say Hello.

As for our boys & girls in kennels - my toast tonight is for some red or green signs to appear for them, some have been waiting patiently for a long time to find their very own sofas - so lets hope this weekend is the one.x

Whatever you're doing this weekend - enjoy.

Cheers - Angie xx

A massive thanks to our Wednesday walkers, the lovely Network team of 5 who came to do a charity work day, our college students, Helen and Stephen for their fantastic help today. I think in particular the Network Rail volunteers were surprisingly impressed with the kennels and the love and care the dogs get whilst in our care. One lady already has a greyhound and was eager to promote the breed.

The weather took a turn for the worse this afternoon, but our intrepid helpers managed afternoon walks too.

The internet was down for most of the day, so thanks to Dave for installing the new hub!

We are fast approaching the Mothers day pawsecco lunch. There will be some lovely food for lunch and a nice glass of sparkling bubbly refreshments. Non alcoholic versions are also available. Tina will be offering mini manies, Mike will be hosting a book stall, there will also be a mithers day tombola and jewellery on sale including special Mothers day items and some new additions to the range. Tickets are available at the kennels or via our on line shop at £12 each. Not bad for a two course lunch with prosecco! Come on where else can you get all of that for that price?

Another trip to the vets this morning, this time it was Stan's turn for his neutering operation. He was such a good boy traveling in the car and was so patient while we were waiting to be seen. He loves a cuddle! :))

Thankfully Beano and Queenies kennel was nice and clean this morning. They were both very happy little girls today. :))

It was quite a pleasant day and we had lots of help for walks. Xxx

Thanks so much to Norman for taking Lou to the park. It was good for her to have a break from the kennels. She really enjoyed herself. :)

Queenie should have gone for her neutering operation today but sadly when we arrived this morning the kennel she shares with Beano was not a pleasant sight....one of them had obviously had an upset tum overnight. :(
As we couldn't be sure which one of them it was, I took lady instead. It was one of those days when things don't go as you think and on the way to the vets Lady decided she needed to leave me a present! Fortunately is was a lot firmer than what I had left behind in Queenie and Beano's kennel. :)) Did a quick clean up outside the vets and drove back with the window open! :)) xx

I am so greatful to lovely Yvonne, Vanessa and Zoe who carried out all the cleaning and feeding this morning. Xxx

Despite being a little chilly the sun came out again today and we were able to take the dogs for morning and afternoon walks. :)

I collected lady later this afternoon, she was a little sleepy. Bless her...she is a cute little girl, do hope she won't have to wait too much longer for her very own special home. Xxx

Thanks everyone for your help today. :))

It almost stayed dry all day, what a difference. I think we managed to put up with the odd hail shower.

Thanks to those who took a kennel dog on the Sheldon Country Park walk. Lou, Dasher and Dice had a nice break from the kennels.

We had two lovely new arrivals, Nell and Kelly, both very sweet. The didn't mind having a bath at all. Thanks to Bob and Gloria for fetching them for us.

Stan the man had a visit from his new family. He really loved their son (I think the feeling was mutual). He went out for a walk with them on the afternoon walk and stayed very close to the son. He is a gentle and affectionate boy and the whole family received lots of kisses! Hopefully he will be going home on Saturday.

It was so lovely to see little Daisy go home today. Off she went with a new wardrobe. She is still reluctant to walk very far, well actually a couple of steps and she's had enough! Her owner sent a photo of her later showing her looking completely at home and lying in front of the fire. Wishing her well. X

Many thanks to everyone for their help today, as always very much appreciated.

Here's hoping for more red signs this week. Xx

We actually saw some blue sky and sunshine today,It does exist after all. :)) xx

We had plenty of willing volunteers to go out for walks this morning and this afternoon. :)) All of our residents enjoyed going out without getting wet! Although we had the odd hail shower!!

Paddy's family came to visit him today, he loved all the extra attention.:)

New lad Dice is settling well and several times when we walked past his kennel today, he was fast asleep on his back legs in the air! :))

Thank you so much to everyone who has visited the kennels this week with bedding, food and treats. So very kind of you.

Ruth popped in to see us this afternoon. She is gradually starting to feel better. :)))

We have two new girls due to arrive at the kennels tomorrow! Xxx

One word sums up today - WET!!! Although as it was sleeting during my drive in to the kennels first thing I guess we should be thankful we didn't get any white stuff!

Jo was off early on the Vet run as it was Beano's turn to be neutered. Bless her she was still very wobbly on her return this afternoon and didn't want her small bowl of food we had prepared for her. Hopefully she will feel a bit brighter tomorrow. x

The boys & girls did manage a short walk this morning when the downpour wasn't quite so heavy. They may not have enjoyed getting wet - but I think they enjoyed all the extra attention as they had heads and paws dried before they went back to bed!

It was a day when you really couldn't do anything, and afternoon walks were abandoned so we did grooming and playing with toys in the feeding runs. I have a soft spot for little Lou, and it was lovely to see her having fun with a toy. She thought that the toy in the next run that Lady had was obviously better than hers so, as Lady wasn't using it and had left it close to the adjoining bars, Lou put her paws under the bar and scraped it underneath towards her so she could play with it - clever girl! x

It was lovely to see Lola again, such a shame about the circumstances. I tried to spend some time putting covers on the duvets, but Lola decided she wanted to "help" and I had to abandon my project as she kept sitting on the covers, and the ends of the duvets as I tried to do up the buttons!! Wishing her Mum all the best and hope she can go home again very soon.

A big thankyou for everyone's help today - it really was a terrible day to be out if you didn't have to be and your support was very much appreciated.

Well the weekend is here again. It is the Sheldon Country Park walk on Sunday, so I am praying that the weather vastly improves before then. We also have some viewings booked so keep your fingers crossed.

It is definitely a red wine kind of evening - so I will raise my glass later to Daybreaks boys & girls, a kennel full of beauties each so deserving of their own forever home. xx

Whatever you are up to this weekend, stay warm & dry if you can - cheers!

No Snow! Hurrah!! :)) Although it was very chilly...

Richard and Declan had a trip to the tip first thing, a dirty job but someone has to do it! :) x

Richard then went off with Bob to collect our new arrival, the very handsome Dice. What a happy lad!

Alan and Declan did the warehouse run. :) After a cup of tea and chocolate donut, of course! :))

It was a beautiful afternoon, lots of blue sky and sunshine:) I went out on the last walk with Gloria and Kerry accompanied by the lovely Penny and Ed. I was able to take my Skip and Lyra. Penny loved the new company and was bouncing along. :))

We have lovely Lola staying with us for a few days. Very sadly her owner has had a fall and was taken to hospital late this afternoon. Cath is a friend of Alan's and he very kindly picked Lola up and brought her to the kennels this evening. It's such a shame, we send lots of love and get well wishes to Cath and hope it won't be long before she and Lola are reunited. Xxx You just never know what's around the corner....

A big thank you to everyone for all your help today. Thanks so much to Bronya and Kerry for giving the treatment room a good clean! :))

Firstly I must thank Angie for covering the kennels first thing this morning. I have sadly been without hot water at home for over a week! New parts fitted to the boiler, cancelled visits and today no better news....more parts and an other engineer visit tomorrow! Also many thanks to one of our regular sand run users who said I could pop around to her house and make use of her facilities :)) Fed up with filling kettles and boiling water in saucepan :(( So thank you so much Angie. Hopefully tomorrow we will be sorted, not holding my breath though.

Anyhow, back to kennel business. We had lovely volunteers from Network Rail come to help out. They all fell in love with our residents, but who couldn't? They were really surprised at just how low maintenance they are and how little exercise they need. As they say '40 mile an hour couch potatoes'.

We had lots of extra help with our college placement students and extra kennel volunteers arriving this afternoon. We had so much help that all the inmates had lots of love and extra cuddles.

Stan the man was a huge hit with everyone, after his visit to the Park yesterday and the glowing report from Stormin, he found himself reserved, well done handsome lad. X

If you are thinking about adopting a dog please give us a call and come and pay us a visit and have a look at the beautiful dogs waiting for their forever sofa.

Well, the weather forecast for the next couple of days is grim to say the least. Keep yourselves and your hounds warm and cosy. Hoping for hot water tomorrow!!!

Daisy had her neutering operation today. She also had her paw checked. She was not happy about going into the vets and when I went to collect her she didn't want to come out of the vets! I bumped into Myra, Alan and their lovely lad Ash...thanks so much to Myra, she helped me to persuade Daisy to get back in the car. When we arrived back at the kennels she very happily trotted back in! Xxx She will soon be going off to her new home. :)) xx

Richard, Alan and Declan (Chuckle Brothers plus one) repaired the leaking roof this morning! Fingers crossed it should be fine until the weather improves (if ever!!) so we can see if everything dries out. Then they hope to be able to do further repairs. We are so grateful to them. Xxx

Norman took New boy Stan for a walk in the park this morning. He was a very good lad. :)) We have discovered why Norman likes going to the park so much...he said the ladies quite often stop and speak to him and today a lady bought him a coffee in the cafe! :))) xx

The Pet Blood Bank team came in today. Unfortunately due to neutering ops, vaccinations etc we had only three dogs able to donate, Blue, Lou and Penny. They all enjoyed their plate of Chappie afterwards. :)
We had very few pet dogs too...if you are interested in your dog becoming a blood donor please contact the Pet Blood Bank on 01509 232 222, they will be happy to pass on all the information you need to know.
One donation of blood can help save the lives of four other dogs. Xx

What stinky weather first thing!! I'm sure like me, many of you got soaked walking your dogs this morning...Skip was very wise and decided to stay in bed this morning! :)) That's my boy! :))

Amazingly the rain more or less stopped in time for morning walks and it was almost sunny when the second walks were ready to start!

A great turnout of volunteers again today, all very enthusiastic to go walking. Thanks to Ruby Rebels dad Nick for taking Dasher to the park. He was very well behaved and walked really well with Ruby.

We started to try and give the sand run a bit of a rake over in between visitors to use it, thanks for helping with that.

Myra came in with her daughter who very sadly recently lost her beautiful Charlie to Rainbow bridge. They stayed and helped with walks and spent time giving the residents lots of cuddles. I think there were a couple of firm favourites there. I think watch this space may be in order.

Thanks too for the donations of bedding and to Tina who dropped off lots of catering items for use in upcoming events.

Wishing Izzy, Alisons dog a speedy recovery after she had an injury running into the sand run. She has been checked by a vet and thankfully has not caused any serious damage to herself. X

The highlight of the day has to be the reservation of gorgeous Paddy. The lovely family fell in love with him and he with them. I'm sure he knew as at feeding time he was very excited and pouncing around waiting to be fed! I would also like to thank them for their very generous donation that they made for our roofing fund, I thought I had heard wrong, but I hadn't. Thank you so very, very much, so kind of you. X

We left tonight with the dogs all curled up warm and comfy on their beds. Xx

Daisy got something in her paw this afternoon. I managed to get a small piece of grit from it but there is something else in there . We bathed it and are hoping it may work its way out. If not she has her Neutering op on Tuesday so we can ask the vet if they will look at for us. :((

It was a quiet day today, and thankfully it stayed dry all day so the boys & girls could have morning and afternoon walks without getting soaked!

On arrival in the mornings we let the dogs out into the feeding runs to toilet before we start on the cleaning and feeding regime. This morning young Mr Dasher decided he was going to have the devil in him! He came out into the run with no problem, but wouldn't come to me when it was time to go back in. He play bowed, kept running around the run and then sat down in the corner - leaned over and slowly lay down on the floor with his legs open and up in the air!!! We had to have several tummy rubs, then he got up and happily trotted back into his kennel! He is such a character and such a gentle soul for a big boy - bless him.

This morning saw the arrival of Daybreaks latest big fella - the lovely Stan. He was a very good boy in the bath, standing nicely to be washed after the initial shock of the shower making him wet had passed! When we had finished he jumped out of the bath nicely then proceeded to give himself a huge long shake - covering Chris & I in water - oh well, it made a change from getting wet from the rain!

We had a lovely phone call from Ringo's new owners - he has found the sofa, had a great first night and is doing really well. x

I actually got to go out on a walk this afternoon, and took my sweet little Lou. Several times today we caught her lying on her bed on her back with her legs in the air - but every time we got the camera out, she jumped up to come and have a look at it!! She is such a beautiful little girl who walks nicely on her lead - fingers crossed she finds herself a new sofa very soon. x

Many thanks for everyone's help today, much appreciated.

Cant believe it but the weekend is here again. Don't forget that tickets for the Mothers Day Prosecco lunch on 21st March are available either from the kennels or via the online shop - scarily it is only 4 weeks away now, the year is flying by.

I will raise my glass of wine this evening to all our boys & girls, may this weekend be the one that finds their forever homes. Cheers one and all.

Many thanks :))

After fighting with the door for a few minutes this morning we finally got into the office! Alan and Richard managed to "sort of" fix it. Alan did ask me to mention on the website which part we were needing....I wrote it down BUT I left the note at the kennels!!! Sorry Alan. Xx

The Chuckle Brothers were also up on the roof of the kennel that was damaged in the storm last weekend and managed to put a piece of tarpaulin over to keep out the rain. The bathroom is also leaking and doubled as a paddling pool today when we had a heavy downpour! :)

Our hardy walkers got soaked this morning. :( Poor Gloria was already wet after a lorry drove through a puddle and deposited the water from it all over her. She was considering drying herself off with the doggy hair dryer in the treatment room until she discovered it only blew out cold air! :) Xxx

Daisy had the right idea and decided she didn't want to go for a walk today and my Skip gave me such a dirty look after he came back very, very wet! :)) x

Fabulous Ringo went home this afternoon. :) His new family were very excited to collect him! He jumped straight into the car and settled down for his journey to his new sofa. :))

A huge Thank you to Shirley H today for taking Ringo to the vet to have his vaccination booster this morning. So very kind of you. Xx Thanks also to Lucy for giving him a lovely pamper, he looked and smelt gorgeous! Xxx

Despite the awful weather everyone kept their sense of humour, Chcolate donuts from Alan helped of course as did Lucy's delicious chocolate cake. Thanks so much to you all for your help and support today. Xxx

It started off cold but sunny, we had most of our Wednesday walkers plus Izzy and Emily who are college placement students who came in during their half term holiday, thanks to you all.

The office door has become somewhat of a problem. It decided it was not going to open and completely failed with Tig and Denises Charlie inside. We managed to prise it open and free the Daybreaks Two and told everyone 'DON'T SHUT THE DOOR', unfortunately as creatures of habit it didn't always work!! Several times throughout the day rescuse missions were launched to rescue those trapped inside!!!! Hopefully tomorrow with the 'help of a man who can' it will be fixed :))

It was lovely to see Dave and Maisie back (Dave was a rescuer on more than one occasion during the day, although I think he took great pleasure in seeing me
trapped).

Hopefully we have someone coming to look at the kennel block roof in the next couple of day's.

Thanks for the generous donations of bedding and towels.

All dogs had morning and afternoon walks despite the rain.

Dasher had a trip to the park this morning with Norman. They both had a great time, Dasher was brilliant! Thanks so much to Norman for taking him. :) x

The weather stayed mostly dry today so everyone got out for walks both morning and afternoon. I managed to go out on one walk....with one of my own dogs! :)) xx

Lady is our latest new arrival! She is a lovely little girl. Lucy and Jill gave her a bath. I don't think she was too impressed! x

Ruth popped in to see us today! She is looking good :))) Xxx

A much better day today :)

Quiet for volunteers, I am so grateful to everyone who came in today. Yvonne and Helen were fab this afternoon and fed all the boys and girls while I was helping lovely Zoey pack her bag and go home with her new Dad. She was very happy to jump in the car and didn't give me a second glance! :)) I'm sure she is going to be very much loved. Xxx

Thank you to everyone who popped in to drop off donations for the dogs. They loved all the extra attention and fuss. :)

An unpleasant surprise this morning. Part of the roof on our bottom kennel block succumbed to Storm Dennis. Fortunately, if anything could be fortunate only one kennel was affected. Thankfully we had moved the resident from that particular kennel on Friday.

Many thanks to Bella and Si who braved the elements and got the ladders out in an attempt to put it back in place. They managed to do a temporary repair, unfortunately the wood on the roof is very rotten. Subsequently the bathroom also suffered a little flooding as it is adjacent to affected kennel.

As if anything else could go wrong it did!! The lock on the office door was sticking. The day was spent trying not to fully close the door just in case we got stuck....I didn't really want to climb through the window with two greyhounds at the end of the day!!

Thanks to our intrepid volunteers and lovely college placement students for all their help on such a very wet, windy miserable day. Most of the dogs managed a morning walk, that was until it really became too awful to continue. The remaining dogs had the toys out in the outdoor runs and had a great time playing. This afternoon we erred on the side of caution and each dog had a play in the sand run.

Paddy seemed a little happier today, bless him.

Thanks to everyone who came in with bedding and to use the sand run. We also had a visit from Steve and Sue who recently did the Pets at Home road show in Stratford. They came in with donations of bedding, pilchards and other goodies. Thanks to everyone who made a donation there.

The highlight of the day was a call from a lovely family who had been in to meet our residents. They went away to make a decision and gorgeous boy Ringo was the hound who melted their hearts. Well done lad. Xx

We hope that you managed to escape the wrath of Storm Dennis, sorry to hear Jeffrey, Carrie, Celia and Princess Jess were not so lucky (sorry your swimming pool disappeared girls, not so sure your Dad is unhappy with it's disappearance though).

Lets hope that the weather will now improve.

Take care all. X

A rather wet and breezy day! However our residents got both morning and afternoon walks.:) A big thank you to everyone who came in to look after the boys and girls. Vanessa and Patrick did all the morning walks, bless you! We had extra volunteers this afternoon and I think they managed to dodge most of the showers. :))

Lovely Lola was officially adopted this morning. She has a fab new Mom! Xxx

Paddy seems a lot brighter today after his operation and Ed was happy to eat both breakfasts and dinner after his dental. :))

I am so sorry to anyone who tried to call me on my mobile today. It's not well and turns its self off when it's had enough! Xxx

I was driving home this evening when I suddenly realised I had forgotten to clean the runs! I did text Jo to apologise!!.......Xx. Think I need an early night! :))

Jo was on Vet run duty today as the lovely Mr Ed went off to have the second part of his dental. He was a bit wobbly on his return to the kennels, but managed to eat his nice soft supper before retiring to bed, bless him.

Paddy is still sore today, and is walking very gingerly!! but at least he hasn't lost his appetite so is taking his pain medication and will hopefully be more comfy in a couple of days. Now he is post-op he is back to no walks again - poor boy, just when he was starting to get out and about again too!!

I met the handsome Mr Dasher today - my goodness what a big, stunning boy he is! He is so tall I don't have to bend down to give him a fuss!! As I did my goodnight round this evening he was upside down on his bed with his legs in the air!!

We were joined today by 6 volunteers from Network Rail. They all happily joined in and especially enjoyed walking the boys & girls. They were all surprised at how gorgeous Greyhounds were, and one or two fell in love with some of our residents!

It was busy, busy today with customers for the sand run, pampers and dropping of donations. This morning saw the lovely Daisy reserved - yay! She wasn't too sure about going out for a walk, but after being coaxed with a tasty treat, she walked off with the group and her new Mum.

This afternoon saw the lovely little Holly off to her new home, wishing her and her new family lots of happy times ahead.

With all the extra bodies today, the doggies had morning & afternoon walks, a lovely groom and lots of extra fuss & cuddles. Many thanks for everyone's help. Fortunately the promised rain stayed away until going home time.

Well, another weekend is upon us - how the time is flying by! We have viewings booked for tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed. My glass of red wine will be raised later to all our residents - let's hope your forever homes are just around the corner.

The forecast for the weekend is not the best, so stay safe everyone.

Cheers - Angie x

Paddy went off to the vets this morning to be neutered. He was quite stressed to be there and his operation took a lot longer than expected.
:( He was very sore when I picked him up tonight. :( Xxx

We had two volunteers for the day from Network Rail :) They were a great help and said how much they had enjoyed meeting our boys and girls. I think they were quite surprised at how calm and laid back the dogs are. Xxx

Many thanks to Bob for letting us use his van for a warehouse run and to Alan, Shirley and Declan for collecting our supplies. :) xxx

Lucy had customers for papmpers...the very beautiful Indi and her friend Willow. They both looked and smelled beautiful when she had finished. :))

We were missing half of our Wednesday walkers today, we did imiss them, we had our regular extra helpers this afternoon, so all the dogs that could go on walks had morning and afternoon walks. Thanks all.

I think Paddy is enjoying going on a 'proper' walk in the afternoon, he seems so much better.

Thanks so very much to Rosie and Paul for looking after pretty little Holly before and after her spey (sorry that she was sick in the car on the way back to the kennels, ooops)! She was very happy this afternoon and ate all of her dinner. All being well she is going home on Friday and will have a very handsome brother Griffy.

Thanks to everyone for the donations of bedding, food and knitted squares!! Early Shirley will be sewing the squares together to make some greyt blankets for the inmates....Thanks Shirl. X

Denises Charlie shared the office with Ruths Tig today. Denise is looking after Tig as Ruth finally got her very much needed surgery today. We are all wishing her a speedy recovery...fingers and everything else crossed. Xx

We also had some viewings, it can sometimes be a difficult decision to decide on the right dog, especially when it's a tough choice between two or more hounds.

I got to meet the extremely handsome and rather large Dashed today...Wow..what else can I say, apart from stunning.

At least the weather was bright and sunny even if it was very cold, the lull before another storm.

Take care all. Xx

We had lots of helpers today. :)) As well as our normal Tuesday lads and lasses we also had the company of four lovely ladies from HSBC getting involved on a Charity Volunteer Day....despite choosing a very chilly day to visit us they helped out with everything and all ended up with a favourite Greyhound by the end of the day! :))

Shirley and I took Drew for a follow up appointment with the vet after his dental last week. All looks good. :)) xx He spent most of journey to and from the vets standing looking out of the back window of the car, he loves to see what's is going on in the big wide world! :))

The home of Pepper, our Chicken received a top to bottom Spring clean by Gloria and Declan. It looks great and I'm sure Pepper appreciates it. :))) Thanks so much to you both. Xxx

Richard found himself a bit of tree surgery to perform...sadly one of the neighbours trees has become very "wobbly" after the recent strong winds. He cut down as much as he could to make it safe. :) xx

A big hug and lots of love to Ruth tonight. She has her operation tomorrow, fingers crossed this will sort out her problems and we can look forward to her being back at the kennels where she belongs as soon as possible! Xxxxxx

Hi everyone. Ok I really don't want to be appear to be nagging. I have in the past couple of days taken calls regarding the following....

Could you all please ensure that your hounds have a house collar with an ID tag on. THIS IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT. In the past couple of days we have had two dogs who had escaped and had no ID tags on them. This causesus a great deal of stress for us trying to reunite a dog with it's owner. It means that our attention is taken away from the dogs in our care.

If you do move home please update your microchip details, I know it is easy to forget but please do it. I personally know if one of my dogs managed to escape I would be distraught and would hope that we would be reunited by either the ID tag or if that had come off their microchip details. It is easy to forget.

Sorry, rant over, but if you love your dog you will do it. Xxx

A little improvement in the weather today, thanks so much to everyone who walked the dogs today. At least they were able to get out for their two walks without getting too wet. Xx

I took Zoey to the vets for her neutering operation this morning. What a lovely little girl she is. She met Harvey the Basset Hound and a Schnauzer in the waiting room and was a very polite young lady with them both. She was a little taken aback when Harvey barked! :)) Her prospective new family are hoping to come and visit her tomorrow. :)

Thanks so much to Rosie and Paul for taking Holly home and then to the vets for her neutering operation today too. Xxx

Trebled has been reserved, yay. This really brightened up what can only be described as a foul, awful, dreadful, wet, windy...Well ok you get the picture.

Many thanks to all the brave souls who braved the elements to come in, I really appreciate it.

It was so bad that all walks today were cancelled for everybody's safety. Instead all our residents enjoyed playing with toys in the outside runs, some took to it better than others. They all had extra cuddles in their kennels, not sure who enjoyed that more, the volunteers or the hounds! They each then paid a visit to the treatment room where they all had a lovely groom and more fuss.

When we left they were all curled up and warm oblivious to the conditions outside. Thankfully the forecast for tomorrow is much better so hopefully they will get to have walks.

Once again, thanks to everyone for their help today. X

Kylie went home today :)) She has a new name Carly! She went home with a lovely new wardrobe, mostly pink! :)

The weather today was really quite spring like and the dogs all enjoyed their walks. All change tonight...I can hear the wind and rain outside! Only Bobby has volunteered to go for a wee wee so far! :) just to reiterate what Lewisfuggie has said make sure all your fences are secure, you know what Greyhounds are like they are very good at finding a gap or a hole to squeeze through and go exploring!

Ruth popped in this afternoon, Lucy and Jess had the pleasure of giving a pamper to Momma and Tiggy! :))

Thanks so much to everyone for their help today. Xx

Although it was chilly today, it felt almost like Spring at times. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and the birds were singing in the trees - it really lifted the spirits with a promise of things to come.

We had no students today, but thanks to our usual Friday team of volunteers the boys & girls had both morning and afternoon walks in the lovely sunshine.

No students meant I was able to do the weighings, teeth cleaning & health checks today. My gold star goes to Mr Trebles who was a model boy standing beautifully and so patiently to have his ears and teeth cleaned, nails trimmed and a good groom and massage with Aloe Vera - he really lapped up the attention and interaction, he is such a lovely boy.

Kylie was as bright as a button this morning following her spey yesterday and polished off her breakfast in record time!

Our 2 new girlies are settling in very well, and are such characters!

After a few weeks of restricted exercise, Paddy went out on a short walk this afternoon. He was very happy to be joining the group going out of the kennels, and seemed to cope well with the walk.

We had a few visitors today, for sand run fun, nail clipping and stocking up on food.

Many thanks for everyone's help today, much appreciated.

Well, the weekend is here again and we have viewings booked so please keep your fingers crossed that there is a red sign outside a kennel or two by Monday morning.

After such a lovely day, I am raising my glass of rather nice Portuguese red wine to our boys & girls with my usual wish for forever sofas for each and every one of them. xx

Whatever you are up to this weekend - enjoy. Cheers!

Amber came in to meet Trebles again...all went quite well. :))

Drew came in again with Shirley and Richard. He is recovering well from his dental and enjoying his time with them and their Greyhound family. He is being a really good boy and he will be staying with them for a few more days. :)))

Thanks so much to Shirley and Richard for sorting all the tinned food in the kitchen. We are so very grateful to everyone who donates food for our Daybreaks residents. You can be sure they appreciate it. Xx

Thank you to whoever donated the jigsaw puzzles. My neighbours (80 And 81) do 2 or 3 a week then I have a go so the kennels get a double donation then we return them for someone else. They've done most of the ones there so will be pleased of a new batch. I should be bringing some more too as they've just picked some up from a charity shop. It's been years since I did a jigsaw but my neighbours gave me and Robert one to do on holiday last year and we're hooked. Simon helps sometimes too. We got a special surprise for the neighbours Christmas present - a My Ravensburger puzzle of Bert, my Rainbow Bridge boy. That won't be coming to kennels! She absolutely adored him and looked after him for us. They make excellent presents from an uploaded photo. I'm part way through doing it now as she leant it to me.

Ok, Wednesday update. As always thanks to our Wednesday walkers . Fairly quiet for visitors, but if there are any jigsaw fans out there we received a whole new supply of these items, and I mean a whole lot! Thanks for the donation of these, I am really surprised how popular they are! I might have to get one and have a go!

We had lots of lovely volunteers this afternoon so the dogs had nice afternoon walks in the sun and the cats had extra cuddles.

Little Daisy actually managed two full walks today without having to be carried back to the kennels! I think the treats that wrre taken to coax her may have helped, but this afternoon she needed no extra encouragement and headed the walk back.

Ruth popped in briefly with Momma and Tig, she hopefully will be having her surgery next week so fingers crossed she will be back at the kennels by the beginning of April all being well. Wishing her all the best, it has been a long and painful journey. We really do miss her and I know she terribly misses being at the kennels.

Hoping we have lots more reservations and homings in the coming weeks. Take care all. X

It was an absolute pleasure to see Harry go home today :)) He is a super lad and he has found himself a super home! Xxx

Drew came in with Shirley and Richard. He was a good boy last night and considering he had such a lot of teeth out yesterday he was remarkably perky and managed to escape from the kitchen by pushing the bottom of the gate just enough so he could get out! :) We decided to put him back in his kennel with Zoey for a while. Shirley and Richard's lad Murphy was most disappointed and cried...a lot!

Norman went off to the park this morning along with Ringo, Kylie and Kylie's prospective new owner. They all had a good time. Xx

It was a nice dry day and we had a lot of walkers...just a little chilly!

Shirley, Richard and I had a go at taming the bedding store! :))

Drew went off to the vets first thing this morning for a much needed dental. Sue very kindly took him for me. He has had 13 teeth removed. :(( Shirley and Richard collected him from the vets this evening and have taken him home with them to recuperate. Bless them. Xxx

Great see Holly and Zoey reserved today! :))

We were short on walkers this afternoon, I had the chance to join in and took Blue out. He walks beautifully on the lead. We had a new club on the first walk...rather sad really as it was "The Returnees Club" Ringo, Blue, Lou and Trebles. :( Hopefully they will all find their own special home. Penny too, she went on the next walk.

We had a visit from Joan and Trevor with their lovely Stella. What a beautiful, happy girl. She is very much loved by her Mom and Dad and she adores them...such a difference from the poor little soul she was when she first arrived at the kennels after being picked up as a stray. She has been with them for over eighteen months! Time passes by so quickly! They brightened up the day! :))) Xxx

Lovely to see Mandy and her Mom with donations of duvets too...saw lots of photos of the very handsome Gorgeous George! Xxx

It was an incredibly busy day, thankfully we had lots of lovely volunteers. A big thanks for all your help.

We had lots of viewings and introductions with dogs looking for a friend, so fingers crossed we may have some happy homed hounds by the end of the week.

Lou (Sunny) was sadly returned this morning, it is felt that she would be more suited to a home with older children. She is such a pretty dainty girl, clean in the house and loves her walks.

Lots of different dogs of all shapes and sizes came throughout the day to use the sand run, it is not restricted to greyhounds. If you know anyone with a dog, regardless of size or breed who is looking for a secure running area please pass on our details.

Well, I am now going to try and warm my feet up.... note...thermal socks don't always work!!!

Jo was off early on the Vet run this morning taking my gorgeous Harry off to be neutered. Unfortunately this afternoon brought the news that he is no longer reserved - bad luck big boy, but you are such a lovely soul that your turn will come again very soon I'm sure. xx

It was a relatively quiet day, so the students could get on with the teeth cleaning and weighings - and our boys & girls enjoyed both morning and afternoon walks.

Little Daisy is still so very afraid of the outside world bless her - she wouldn't go for a walk this morning, so this afternoon she joined Paddy for a gentle stroll around the sand run. She seemed more at ease in the peace and quiet of the run, but after one circuit she headed for the gate!! Such a lovely little girl, we hope that time and patience will build her confidence and let her start enjoying life. x

This afternoon saw the lovely Bindi go off to her new home - wishing her and her new family many happy times ahead.

Many thanks for everyone's help today - we managed to stay mostly dry!

Another weekend is upon us, and we have some viewings booked so keep your fingers crossed. I am raising my glass of wine as usual to the beautiful Greyhounds in our care - may forever sofas be just around the corner. xx

A really busy day today!

Bindi went off to be neutered first thing this morning. She is usually a bouncy girl but she wasn't too keen on being at the vets. I picked her up this afternoon, all the staff had fallen in love with her! It's Harry's turn tomorrow for a trip to the vets! I'm sure he will have all the ladies swooning...he is adorable! Xx

Richard, Shirley and Declan very kindly did a warehouse run for us. Many thanks to Bob who let us borrow his van...very sadly we no longer have a van of our own, we had to give it back to the Greyhound Trust when we left them at the beginning of the month. :(

Shirley ordered the piece missing from our dog rehabilitation/walking machine. We now have an emergency stop button, thanks Shirley! It works great! Not got a dog on it as yet, tried to get Lyra to try it out but she was happier to go and play with her ball in the sand run. :)x

Pixie went off to her new home. :)) She has a new name Florence! Xx
She was good and so patient in the office while we filled in paperwork. Her new owner treated her to a brand new wardrobe. :) x

Our tiny little Kylie has been reserved! :)) Exciting! Xx

Amber came to visit us again looking for Mr. Right...she was much better with some of boys this time. :)) Although Skip was on the receiving end of her "sharp tongue" today. :)

Thanks so much to all our volunteers and students today. So grateful to for everyone's support. Xx

....Alan is on holiday this week, we were very disappointed not to have received any donuts sent in the post to us! :))) xx

Again, it was very cold again today. As always thanks as always to our Wednesday walkers, volunteers and placement students.

Little Daisy is still not sure about going for a walk! Given time I am sure she will come around and see it is enjoyable to go walking, until then she can go in the sand run for a stroll.

Big lad Paddy is certainly enjoying his gentle sand run walks, he is such a handsome affectionate boy.

We had a new arrival, Holly. She is gorgeous , she had a bath on arrival and enjoyed her dinner, hopefully she will settle soon. As you can see by her photo she is very inquisitive regarding new things. Thankfully Lucy should be in tomorrow and get a better picture of her (thanks Kate, I thought the one I took was quite cute)!

We had lots of lovely volunteers, Duke of Edinburgh students and our two college placement students. Thanks all for your help.

Thanks also to Liz_Beth for taking trebled and Zoey to the Sheldon Country Park walk and to Richard and Shirley for taking Drew and Harry along too.

Gorgeous Paddy had a couple of lovely strolls around the sand run as he is currently on restricted exercise. He would be ideally suited to a home where he can just put his paws up and have short gentle walks. He is such a handsome big lad.

Little Daisy is still not sure of her new surroundings or walking, she did have an upset tum this afternoon. Hopefully as she settles she will become more confident. Not too sure she enjoyed the second bath in as many days, bless her.

Shy girl Kylie is starting to show her cheeky playful side, for those of you who don't know she is the sister of Celia who was very nervous and timid whilst at the kennels. If you have read the posts by her dad she certainly is not the same girl now! I suspect Kylie will be very similar in character!!

We had lots of visitors come to use the sand run, some regular users and some new. People are amazed when they see the running area and really enjoy watching their hounds have a good run, or in the case of many greyhounds, a quick sprint followed by much sniffing and looking through the gate at the traffic passing by at the bottom of the drive!

Despite the horrible weather it was a greyt day. X

Angie normally does the Friday diary but she had matters of very great importance to see to. So this is what happened today.

The dogs enjoyed their walks even if it was chilly. Angie took Paddy for a gentle stroll around the sand run before she left as his leg is a little sore.

Kenny paid a visit to say goodbye as he is off to live in Chester with his mom, he made himself at home in the office. Then pretty little Charlotte came in with her dad bearing gifts of sardines for the dogs and goodies for the hoomans. Her and Kenny seemed to really quite like each other!

We had a gorgeous new arrival, Daisy. She arrived very late in the day so unfortunately we couldn't bath her (sorry Kate), and as we were feeding when she arrived she came into the office to wait for her dinner and to be allocated a bed for the night. After moving Paddy to a single suite, and introducing her to her new room mate she and Pixie got a twin room! They decided which bed they each wanted and seemed very settled :))

Thanks to everyone who came in to visit, buy food and walk. Volunteer Dave went on one of his mad 'lets see what i can tidy' sprees, I don't think he could find much. I'm sure much more happened and if I remember I'll let you know!!

In the immortal words of Angie, I will raise my glass for a good week ahead. X

It was great to see both Lola and Harry reserved today! :) Xx

We had plenty of willing walkers today and the weather was fine so all enjoyed their walks. Xx

Thanks so much to the visitors who dropped off bedding for us. I was surprised by the doorbell ringing at 5.30pm from a lovely couple with a donation of duvets. :)

Please can I ask anyone who uses the sand run to remember to pick up any little deposits their dogs might leave behind. :) Sadly one of our regular customers picked up numerous "extras" in the sand when she came to use the run recently. We need to make sure the run is safe and clean for everyone's use. Thanks so much. Xx.

We have another new arrival due in tomorrow. :))

Thank you to everyone for all your help today. :) Xxx

It was a little warmer today thank goodness. Thanks as always to our Wednesday walkers, college students and volunteers. All dogs enjoyed morning and afternoon walks. Paddy had a gentle stroll around the sand run.

We had a fantastic donation of dog food and treats. Thanks to the lovely gentleman who brought it in.

All winners of Sunday's launch day raffle have now been notified, sorry if you didn't get a call! We very kindly had two edible prizes donated back to the kennels for our volunteers to enjoy, thanks so much.

Our donation table is now back out, why not come and see if anything grabs your attention?

Aren't the new photos of the dogs great?! :)) Thanks so much to Lucy for taking them all and to her photo shoot assistants Shirley and Richard. :) My favourite is Rose...what fabulous ears! Xxx

Shirley and Richard collected a dog rehabilitation/walking machine that we had very kindly been offered. There was much anticipation to see it working but sadly there was a piece missing. :( Its only a small item and If it can't be found we should be able to get it online...We are very grateful to the lovely people who have given the machine to us. It will be interesting to see it in action. :))

Thanks so much to everyone who helped out today.

We had a day of tidying up after yesterday's Launch Day, we found the best way to tidy the left over cakes was to eat them! :)))

It was cold but a nice day for walking, many thanks to all who took the dogs out this morning and this afternoon. Xxx

Beautiful little Rose has found herself a great family complete with a four legged friend who is quite a bit bigger than she is. :))

I am so grateful to Yvonne and Zoe for looking after the kennels this morning while I took Skip to the vets. He had a foreign body in his paw...a tiny piece of glass was causing all the trouble, which has now been removed and given to him as a souvenir! Bless him. Xxx

Just a reminder...if you are coming to our Official Launch Party on Sunday...and we would like to see as many of you as we can. Parking is available at Birmingham Exiles Rugby Club, please park at the top of the car park (closest to Coventry Road) you can access the main road via a gate leading onto it. The rugby club have requested that you park as closely to each other as you can as they have several games on and need parking space too. Please do not park at the Gables, you will be ticketed and issued with a parking charge.
Many thanks. Jo

A day of two halves weather wise - rainy this morning, sunny this afternoon but blooming chilly all day!!! Fortunately though, the doggies could go for both walks so they were happy.

I met our latest arrivals Harry, Paddy & Zoe. They are all so lovely but I must admit to having fallen in love with Harry! He is mahoosive - but walks beautifully on his lead and eats so gently, a very friendly gentle giant. Paddy is also a handsome big chap, and little Zoe is sharing with the lovely Drew. They are getting along well, although as is typical with the girlies - she is on the big bed leaving poor Drew to curl up on the small raised bed!!

A quiet day for visitors meant we could get on with preparations for Sunday's launch party - we are all looking forward to it and hope to see lots of ex residents and their families. We would like to say a huge thank you to our friends and supporters at Burns and Skinners who have very kindly donated goody bags - so the first 100 people through the gate will receive some lovely goodies, and we have popped some of our own freebies and promotional vouchers in the bags too. At the moment the weather forecast is looking good, if a bit chilly, so fingers crossed it stays that way.

Well, another weekend is here and my red wine toast tonight is for all our gorgeous boys & girls, may forever sofas be just around the corner. Hope to see you on Sunday.

Cheers!

The rain was back today!! We were able to do morning walks but the rain was so heavy this afternoon walks were abandoned :( Instead the dogs had a break from their kennels and enjoyed a groom. :)

I met Zoey, Paddy and Harry today. Zoey is a very cute little girl and all I can say about the boys is, Wow! They are both gorgeous :)))

Lucy was hoping to take photos of all our new arrivals this afternoon but it wasn't really photo shoot weather! :(

Thanks so much to everyone for their help today, Alan cheered us up when he and Paddy arrived with the donuts! :)) xx

A lovely day. Our Wednesday walkers came in this morning, thanks as always. This afternoon we had more lovely volunteers to take the residents for a walk.

We had three gorgeous new arrivals, little girl Zoey and two rather large boys, Harry and Paddy. All three are very affectionate and polished off their dinners in no time. Hopefully they will all have a settled night.

We are getting ready for our official launch day on Sunday, please come along and join us if you can make it. We really enjoy seeing our ex-residents and their h oomans and hearing all about their antics!. This is our first event since 'going independent'.

Ed went off to the vets to be neutered this morning. He was very wobbly when I picked him up this afternoon. Even though he had several teeth removed he did enjoy his dinner! Hopefully he will feel better in the morning. Xx

So happy to see lovely Pixie reserved today! She is adorable. Xxx

We still have photos waiting to be collected of Greyhounds with Santa taken at our Christmas Party...Tommy, Enzo, Marty, Annie, Rocky, Seana's babies and Mason, who isn't a dog! :)) Please collect them when you can. Xxx

Please come along to our Launch party on Sunday, we are really looking forward to seeing lots of ex Daybreaks residents, after all that's what Daybreaks is all about finding forever homes for these beautiful dogs! :)) Xxx

It was a busy day, lots of lovely visitors to have a look around and to drop off donations of bedding, always greatly appreciated. I was kept fairly busy in the office, so many thanks to Bella for showing people around.

We had two lovely new arrivals this afternoon, Pixie and Bindi, so very sweet, they seemed settled when we left this evening. We are expecting more new arrivals this week.

It was very cold but that didn't deter our volunteers, students and Duke of Edinburgh candidates. The dogs had morning and afternoon walks and it stayed dry. Thanks to everyone for their help and hard work.

Don't forget to come along to our Launch party and help us celebrate our new found independence, Sunday 10.30 until 2.30. Lots of goodies and refreshments to be had. See you there :))

Jess had customers for pampers, including Kitty and Bobby. Kitty was not impressed by the hair dryer and gave Jess several "dirty" looks after her pamper was complete! Xx

New girls Kylie and Rose are settling very well and are delightful, they would be a lovely Greyhound family! Xxx

Many thanks to everyone who helped out today. Thanks Jayne for tidying the memorial garden. :) Xx

It was lovely to see the sun today - made such a nice change.

Jo was off on the early Vet run this morning with Russ, who was collected this afternoon by his new Dad and will recuperate in the best place there is - his very own home.

Thanks to our volunteers and college placements we could give the boys and girls both morning and afternoon walks. Many thanks for everyone's help today.

Our new arrivals are so sweet, little Kylie is just like her sister Celia was - so very nervous and wary of the world. She has been paired up with Rose who is an absolute sweetie and very loving and friendly so we hope she will show Kylie the ropes and tell her not to be scared and that she is safe now. Big Ed is such a handsome and friendly boy. With more new arrivals expected over the weekend, the kennels is gradually coming back to life!

Plans for the Daybreaks Trust Launch Open Day on 19th January are well under way and we hope to see as many ex residents and their humans as possible to help us celebrate our big step into the future. Parking will be available at Birmingham Exiles Rugby Club - at the top end nearest the A45. Please do drop in and join us. x

This afternoon saw the gorgeous Knight off to his new home - he was over the moon to see his new Mum and couldn't wait to get out of the gate!! Wishing him many happy times ahead.

Well it may be a new year, but my Friday evenings haven't changed and I will be raising a glass of wine to toast our boys and girls, Daybreaks Trust and its fabulous supporters and wishing for a weekend of red and/or green signs. Cheers!

A very busy day...three lovely new arrivals, Ed, Rose and Kylie. :)) We have more boys and girls due to arrive over the next few days. :)

It was sad to see Lola returned this morning, she is a super little girl so I'm sure it won't be long before she finds a new home. Xxx

Russ came back for the night to be ready to go for his neutering operation first thing in the morning. He now has a lovely "Reserved" sign on his kennel door and his new Dad left with winter coats ready for when his boy goes home with him for good. :)) Xx

Richard and Declan got busy early this morning loading the van up for a trip to the tip! Thank you!!

Later on Alan arrived with the first chocolate donuts of the New Year! Many thanks to him, Richard and Lucy for going to the warehouse for us. :)) Xxx

It's very strange having so few dogs in the kennels. So again today they had extra long walks. Thanks as always to our Wednesday walkers and to our placement students and volunteers who came in.

The students managed to put covers on duvets ready for making beds for when we have some new arrivals.

I also had a call from Kennys mom. He too is doing fantastically well, and he too is perfect!

It seemed to get colder as the day went on, when we left the dogs were curled up with their fleeced on and the heating too.

The rain came back today! The dogs managed to get their walks without getting too wet. We had two lovely new volunteers this morning, they were very amused to discover Greyhounds really don't like the rain and prefer to walk around the puddles and not through them! :))

We still have some photos taken at our Christmas party of Greyhounds and Santa, please pop in and collect them when you get chance. They are lovely. Xx

Thank you so much to everyone who donated food and treats for the dogs at Christmas, so very kind of you. The dogs really appreciate them all! :)) Thank you also for the biscuits and chocolates for the humans too...we are still busy eating them! :))

At this dreary time of the year, if you are looking for something to cheer you and your Dog up why not bring them to the sand run? Lyra came to the kennels with me today and went in the run. She had a fantastic time playing with her ball, so much so that she didn't want to leave! She ran to the very top of the run and sat down in the far corner pretending not to see or hear me! When I eventually got her back Shirley took Murphy in and he loved choosing several toys to throw around....he didn't tidy up and put them back though! :))) Xx

Thanks so much to everyone who helped out today. Xxx

The residents had two extra long walks today :) I had the pleasure of taking Knight out. He walks beautifully on the lead and is just the right height to be able to stroke him and walk at the same time. :))

It great to see Alan and Myra this afternoon. Everyone got back shortly before the rain. :(

Only four houndies to walk today. All were very well behaved. Drew walked beautifully, he is very happy to be with the other dogs. Blue was super, hes a lovely boy. Russ likes to be in the front and walks really well and Knight who is quite lively in the kennel is a delight to walk.. Virtual hugs to go with the real hugs xxxxx
