It was a pleasure to meet Linford yesterday. Vic our hound, was very relaxed with him, and although he showed an interest in Hope, the pointer cross, he wasn't lunging after her. I wish him all the best in his new home. Yes, it's a shame he has lost his tail, but his ears told us what he was thinking!

Thanks so much to Erik for taking him out for what was a very interesting trip to the park! :) He probably hasn't seen a duck before or a pond! :))) Can't wait to see him tomorrow and tell him he is Reserved! :)) Xxx

Today I had the pleasure of taking Linford out for a walk in Sutton Park. Initially he was not keen but once we got going he was quite relaxed. He travelled well, he was first standing but once he found his comfort he was happily lying down, now and then looking out of the rear window. On the way back he jumped in the car with the aid of a treat. He was probably tired as I did not hear or see him.

I was pleasantly surprised during the walk, I was informed that he was retired because he started to chase other greyhounds rather then the lure and that there may be some aggression towards other dogs. I was of course cautious, but with the first encounter, a mini dachshund, he was more bemused at this little barking dog.

The next group of dogs we came across were a Greyhound and what appeared to be a beagle cross. Linford had a sniff at the greyhound, but the beagle cross found the muzzle on Linford a bit scary so was not keen to interact. Interestingly, Linford wanted to walk with them and this is what we did most of the walk. He did show a great interest in the beagle cross when I realised he has not been neutered yet and the beagle cross is female.

We also came a cross another group which had a fluffy Pomeranian to which Linford did respond and wanted to chase. This was easily corrected and controlled. Once we were at a pond, he saw some ducks and he unexpectedly jumped in the water he was probably a little surprised how deep it was and I had to help him out. We came across another group of small dogs. One a poodle cross and one unknown cross but both small dogs. You showed interest but was not fussed. We also came across cyclist, runners and playing children of different ages, none of this caused you concern or reaction.

I had taken a homemade toy to see if he likes toys or treats. He is a treats man, he was not interested in the rattling toy but a treat, YES please. It even helped me on the return journey to check if he was ok. He would not respond to his name but when I stopped at traffic lights and opened the pack of treats, he soon picked up on the smell and was standing up. So, for training use treats as his go to reward.

Linford was quite an easy dog to walk. He is interested in sounds and smells and the new sights of environment and animals. He was not pulling much and travels well. Yes, he did show, what I call a lunge at a Pomeranian, not sure I would classify it as aggression towards other dogs. Given the fluffy nature of a Pomeranian and the training Linford has had, it is not surprising he reacted. I must admit that I do miss his tail. This is simply because dogs use their tail to communicate emotion. So when they meet other dogs their tail is a useful gauge to anticipate their level of confidence, shyness or ambivalence. I did see a lot of alter behaviour but no targeting behaviour, which is good.

Overall once Linford is neutered you may well have a very relaxed dog on your hands. In terms of the lunging that can be trained out of him and being clear and consistent in the approach will help. For any dog, there is nothing worse then getting mixed messages. I also suggest giving him a different name he simply has not responded to Linford, keep it short and simple. Linford, thank you for the walk, I enjoyed it very much and was pleasantly surprised at your overall relaxed demeanour. You made me laugh when you just went into the water to investigate the ducks. I am sure you will make a great pet. Thank you for the nice walk today and enjoy your retirement.

What a cool looking Linford! :) He is a great lad. He enjoyed playing with some toys today and was a very quick learner with the Kong treat toy....do hope he won't be waiting too much longer for his forever home. He is getting a little fed up of his kennel and is waiting patiently for someone special to come along. Xxx

Oh Linford, what a fab photo - shows what a lovely character you are. I just wish we could get you a forever sofa my lovely - may have to reinstate the phone photo screensaver with you as my first candidate!

You may be a bit vocal until you come out of your kennel, but you're just reminding us not to forget about you - and you do love to lean!

Fingers crossed for you my boy. xx

Met this friendly boy briefly today. He came to the front of his kennel to say hello with his little tail wagging
I thought to myself there would no problem in a house with that tail knocking things off the coffee table!! But you would still know how happy is to see you. Hoping someone special spots his potential soon huge cuddles for him xxxx

I was greeted by a very happy Linford-Bob tail this morning. :)) As he only has a very short tail the whole of his bottom "wags" to greet you! He is great and gets my cuddle tonight! :) Xxx

Linford experienced another exploding pillow incident overnight, lol!!! The kennel floor was very white & fluffy!

This boy is so happy and busy, and loves to be involved with what's going on - he can be a bit vocal if he thinks we are ignoring him or are taking our time getting him out for his food! Keeping fingers crossed that his forever sofa comes along very soon. xx

Linford decided he didn't like the pillow Yvonne had lovingly placed in his kennel this morning....he thought it looked better with the stuffing removed and spread around his kennel. :)) It did create a very nice snow scene! :)) Xxx

Linford came with me to Elmdon Park today. He only arrived yesterday and so everything is very new to him. Considering that, he coped well with walking along a very busy A45 to the park entrance and wandering around the park seeing other dogs. He enjoys a good sniff and will you know when he is ready to move on. He will also let you know which path he fancies exploring. Bless him, he deserved to be allowed a few choices on his first foray into life after racing. Good luck handsome boy x

What a lovely boy you are, Linford. You gave my hands a nice wash when you arrived and did a cute, excited little dance when you saw Emily and Izzy with the lead. I'm sure your forever sofa is not far away. Xx

Welcome Linford. Your great grandad is Just the Best - my Rainbow Bridge Boy Bert's daddy. Bert had the sweetest nature and was an amazing houndie (as they all are). If you've got any of his traits you'll be a fantastic pet. See you on Sunday if you're still there. x
