Despite the rain, snow and hail our intrepid roofers carried on with their work today! :). The kennels are looking fantastic, so much more light now the new roof is on and all the insulation will guarantee the residents will be cosy next winter. :)

The Pet Blood Bank visited us today. Benny, Foxy, Jonny, Stefie and Philip became donors. I think the nurses fell for all of them! We also had a lot of gorgeous pet dogs come in to donate it was great to see them all looking brilliant. :)

Thanks to Norman and Jackie for taking Stefie and Betty for a trip to the park this morning and to everyone who took the dogs out for their walks and helped out today.

Cant believe Bob will be 90 this Sunday, anyone who has met him knows he is a real character and a lovely gentleman. He really does such a lot to help us and the Greyhounds. His Birthday is a great opportunity to say thank you. Xxx

This coming Sunday (30th April) is Bob's 90th Birthday!!!! Most of you will know Bob as he owns Daybreaks Kennels.

We have a birthday book with photos in to sign and are doing a collection. If you would like to contribute please let me know and if you are able to pop up around 10.45 when we give his pressies that would be great! Ruth

What a lovely spring day! It was also a much quieter day today. No banging or drilling going on!

Wonderful to see Pip, now called Woody go home. He was very happy to attempt to jump into the car with his new brother Buddy and sister Pepper. He almost made it but needed a little help with his back end! :)

We had visits from Cadbury, Ladysmith, Josie and their families, all looking great. :)

We also had a visit from the very cute Janet who is currently being fostered. She is still a nervous girl, but has certainly gained in confidence since being in a home environment. She gets on very well with Sophie and Andy's Greyhound Gigi. She will be coming back to the kennels once all the work on the roof is finished; unless she finds a home. :)) Her sister Judy is also currently being fostered and is also still looking for her forever home. If you are interested in meeting either of them please contact us at the kennels for more information. They really are super little girls. :)

Work continues on the top kennel block roof, and there was much hammering and drilling going on all day. Not that it bothered the gorgeous Stefie, who settled himself on the bed in the run and proceeded to snooze through it all!!

Apologies if I missed any telephone calls this morning, it was rather noisy!

Unfortunately, as often happens, the workmen are running into several snags which have added some time to the proposed end date for the work, so we ask you to please bear with us over the next week or so as the kennels will be in a bit of a state and it might not always be possible to accommodate requests for bathing's/pamper packages as currently we are using the treatment room as a kitchen! I must say that the bits that have been completed so far look amazing, and it will be fantastic when completed and will make such a difference.

Amongst all the building work today we saw the lovely Buster reserved - he had a ball in the sand run with his new owner and it was love at first sight. So happy for this lovely boy.

Thanks to those who came this afternoon, meaning the dogs could get out on a walk and have a little break from the construction.

What a mad day! :))

The old roof came off the top kennel block. Wow, the wood underneath has rotted badly and the remains of a rats nest was found in one section. Because of all the rotted wood the job has become bigger than first envisioned and we were unable to put the dogs back in their kennels this evening. :(
BUT.....
Three of our beautiful Greyhounds went home today; which meant we were able to find room for everyone. :)

First to go home was gorgeous George followed by the equally gorgeous Toby and later this afternoon pretty little Belle went home too. Thank you so much to all their new families for finding extra space on their sofas for them!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped out today. :) Xxx

Great day - a hive of activity with the roofing team in first thing and we now have a kitchen roof and work has started on the first kennel block.

I kept busy and blitzed 'out the back' of the kennels and it looks great - Kate don't panic - I haven't thrown anything away I shouldn't have!!!! :-)

It was a rather chaotic day today! The roofer lads arrived very early and we were rushing to get everyone fed and cleaned out as they were keen to get going and take the old roof off the kitchen. By the time we left tonight the new roof is looking great! They are back again first thing tomorrow. :)

Brilliant to see Philip and Belle reserved and of course lovely Casey "fostered" by Jeremy and Julie. :))

We had plenty of volunteers to be able to take the dogs out for walks this morning and this afternoon. Thanks so much. Xxx

The last week has been so busy and I am sure you all keep up to date with our diary but with our new arrivals on Friday, a prison trip and exchange in Cambridge on Saturday (it was great to have Philip, Steffie and Jonny D back especially as they went crazy when they saw me!) and a very busy Sunday I was thankful for a day off yesterday to prepare for a crazy week ahead and it has already started!

The roofers were in just before 9am and the roof to the kitchen is already half demolished!!! The new security system is being completed once the roof is finished and then the re-wire will be completed.

I am so absolutely grateful to everyone who gives up their time to help at the kennels in every way and those who help fund raise also to help us achieve what we do with the dogs, whether it be for their care or to improve the kennels. Although my life is not 'normal' I wouldn't have it any other way!

Today was like the Mary Celeste. I managed to get the dogs in the run, a few managed to go on walks - thanks to the lovely Billys owners this morning whilst they waited for Billy to have his pamper session with Lorna and a few went on the afternoon, thanks to Cello's owners. The dogs had a viewing straight from Melbicks thanks to Jill and Paul, who were there today, showing what great pets greyhounds make. Thanks to Alison who only popped in late this afternoon and i persuaded her to stay and help afternoon feeding. All dogs are now snoozing after full bellies, they look so cute and peacefull. x

What a cold, grey, wet day that was - a typical British Bank Holiday really, lol!! It was very quiet at the kennels, and thanks to those who braved the elements to take the dogs out for a walk or a play in the run.

The rain didn't dampen Vegas's spirits as she started the forts leg of her exciting new life in Cornwall. She jumped into the back of the car as soon as the tailgate was opened, and was ready for the off! Wishing her and her new family lots of happy times together.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the raffle for the gorgeous Easter treats hamper. The lucky winner was Michelle (I have phoned and left her a message), so please come and claim your prize as it is very tempting, lol!!

It was good to see our boys back from their stay at HMP Littlehey, they are looking good and there is interest in them already so hopefully there stay back at Daybreaks will be a short one.

Hope everyone has had a lovely Easter Day, the boys & girls enjoyed doggy choc Easter Eggs for their lunchtime treat - no reason why they shouldn't enjoy Easter too!

Wonderful to see Rio go home today. Wishing him and his lovely new family lots of great times together. :) We shall miss his happy face. Xx

Handsome Pip was reserved! He is a real character. x

It was great to see ex Daybreaks resident Con this morning. He came for a pamper with Jess. He was a very nervous boy when he was a resident at the kennels but has grown in confidence since going home. He looked a very handsome lad after his pamper. :)) Misty, another ex resident came in for nail clipping too. Such a pretty girl. :) Its always great to see old friends two legs and four! x

Many thanks to Jeremy and Julie for giving Casey a break from the kennels for a few days. It sounds as though he is having a lovely time and doing lots of sleeping! x

Thank you to everyone who came in to help today. The dogs enjoyed morning and afternoon walks and lots of extra grooming and cuddles. :)

Good luck to everyone who has had a go on the Easter raffle. :))

Today has been SO busy!!! We had new arrivals Earl, Nifty and Tommy. These boys have been bathed and are off to HMP Littlehey tomorrow as part of the prison project. They are due back at Daybreaks on Monday 5th June.

We saw Kitty off to her new home and the gorgeous Rio and Vegas - both long stayers at Daybreaks, were reserved today and are off to their new homes over the weekend :-)

We have a fabulous Easter Hamper full of chocolate goodies and the raffle will be drawn on Sunday so please come along and buy a ticket - you may be the lucky one! Proceeds of the raffle are going to Perry Barr Retired Greyhound Trust to help pay for our vets bills.

A quiet day at kennels today. Thank you to everyone who came in and helped with the morning walks. :)

This afternoon all the dogs had a Kong to play with in the kennel runs. We stuffed them with peanut butter which they loved.

Toby spent some time in the kitchen today, he is a very sweet lad. He will be off to his new home in the next couple of weeks. We have lots of other beautiful Greyhounds in the kennels looking for loving homes, if you have room on your sofa for a very special friend please come and meet them. :)

What a VERY HOT day, we managed to get the dogs out on morning walks before it got to hot, but didnt send them on afternoon walks and took them for a stroll in the run instead. We had plenty of volunteers and a few people came to say high and see the dogs, so was unusually quiet for a sunday. Tom took the bench off out the back to be sanded down, ready for a new lick of paint over new few days. The fab Dante and Betty were both reserved and will be on there way to new forever homes shortly. The sand run was taken over most of the this afternoon with a "Pomsky" party - there were around 15 dogs (they are a cross between a Husky (mom) and a Pomeranian (Dad)) they just looked like stunted legged huskys. lol. It was a very quiet day today, quite a contrast from last Friday. I think the glorious weather may have had something to do with it - at one point this afternoon we contemplated putting out the "closed" sign and taking the dogs out to a country pub, lol!!!!

Betty went off for her spey early this morning, but due to an emergency case at the Vets, was not operated on until very late this afternoon. I left Ruth to battle through the rush hour traffic to go and pick her up (sorry Ruth!).

I met new arrival Ella today, and what a happy, friendly girl she is. So much so that this afternoon the kennel she is sharing with her handsome partner Rio looked like a scene from a horror movie with blood splattered all over the walls!!! Bless her, that happy tail had been bashed against the wall once too often and had split the end wide open!! She is now sporting a very fetching yellow bandage!

We did have some walkers this afternoon so some of the dogs went for a walk in the lovely sunshine, and some of our more high energy residents (!) had some play time in the sand run.

We have some viewings booked for the weekend so fingers crossed that we can put some lovely reserved signs on some of our residents kennels.

Thanks very much for everyone's help today.

We are looking for fabulous homes for the Greyhounds in our care. They are wonderful dogs and given the chance they will give you all their love and more. It doesn't matter what colour they are, whether a boy or girl, big or small. They are all different with their own very special personalities. :)) Xxx

A busy day today. :) Great to see Shani and Ken with their very handsome boys Dexter and Jack. Poor Jack was not impressed with having a bath, but he did look so lovely afterwards! Many thanks to Shani and Ken for treats for the Greyhounds and the volunteers. :))

Jeremy and Julie took George and Belle for a trip to the park this morning, they had a lovely time. x

We had several viewings for the dogs and it was wonderful to see George reserved. He is a smashing lad. Little Betty was a real star with a lovely young lad who was a little nervous of dogs; if only she hadn't failed her cat test she would have found a home. :( Not to worry sure her forever home is not too far away. x

The silly card machine just didn't want to work this morning! Must thank the lady from the Elevon helpline for getting it to work...modern technology!! :)

Jayne, one of our volunteers amazed us with her strength this afternoon...she managed to break the door to the kennels! All she could say was, "I only opened it" :). Thanks so much to Paul for putting it back together again. Think Jayne must be some sort of super hero in disguise! :)

Thanks very much to everyone who helped out today. :)))

What a very busy day it was today! The weather was absolutely glorious, it felt almost like Summer this afternoon!

We had 6 volunteers from HSBC with us today, and along with a lot of regular volunteers, there were more people than dogs!!! At least it ensured that the dogs got 2 walks in the lovely sunshine, and some playtime in the sand run. It also meant we could set the HSBC lads to work raking and clearing the sand run of leaves and twigs and making the surface clean and safe.

Norman took the lovely Benny out to the park this morning to continue his socialisation. Benny is a big strong lad who is so loving, but still quite excited by small dogs and balls being thrown. Big thanks Norman for taking him again.

Thank you to those who donated bedding, the dogs will enjoy those lovely, squashy duvets!

Another weekend is upon us, and my hope is that some more of our residents will find their forever homes. Thanks to all who helped out today.

The day started early with a trip to the vets with Casey for another B12 injection, more blood tests and urine tests. His creatinine levels are incredibly high (should be around 225 but are 6,693!!!!) However, this is an improvement from last week which were over 7,300!) He is bright however and seems much more settled and happy.

The new roof has been completed on the treatment roof and the office and work has started on the kitchen roof and top block..... it looks amazing!

Congratulations to Mrs M Tullet who was drawn as the winner for the £20 argos voucher in the last Grapevine.

Two gorgeous new arrivals today, Pip and Betty. Pip just could not wait to get through the gate of the kennels! He is a very handsome, happy boy. Betty was a little more reserved and ladylike but also had a very waggy tail. :)

Lots of volunteers today, the dogs enjoyed their walks. Benny and Vegas were both treated with a trip to the park. Foxy Boswell went too :) Many thanks to Norman, Adam and Callum.

Thanks so much to Caroline and Gail who tackled tidying the bedding store; its a tough job, but someone has to do it!! :)

Ruth got the worst job...trips to the tip! :)

Work is progressing nicely on the new roof for the treatment room and office. :)

I feel I am 'Momma' to all the greys at Daybreaks when they are here so I have had an absolutely awesome Mother's Day with seeing Maggie and Ace go off to new homes. Kitty has been reserved and the very handsome Toby has arrived too.

We are off to pick up Vegas from her overnight stay at Adam's house (one of our volunteers) where she has been absolutely golden - it is such a shame he can't keep her!!!!

Poor Belle has kept us busy with cleaning her walls down in her kennel as she has split her tail... she is just such a happy bean that her tail never stops wagging!

We have had updates from Janet and Judy who went out to foster yesterday - bless her, Judy has been up on the work tops!!!!! I have added the photo.... whoever adopts her will be kept on their toes! I remember Foxy doing the same ;-)

Happy Mother's Day especially to all those who have adopted 4 legged hairy kids!!!!!!

Wonderful to see Saffy and Snap go off to their new homes today. Wishing them lots of happiness :))

Our nervous girls, Janet and Judy have been fostered; not together but with families who have other Greyhounds. Sure they will enjoy being in a home rather than at the kennels. They have started to become a little braver, they got off their bed to greet us this morning and we even had a couple of waggy tails. :) If you are interested in meeting either of the girls please contact us on 0121 782 7702.

Thank you so much to everyone who brought in bedding for the dogs, we are always grateful to accept anything that will help make their beds extra comfy!

It's been a busy week at Daybreaks with vet visits - I took Rio to Fivelands on Monday and he sadly had to have 25 teeth out. This has not affected him at all - that evening he ate all his dinner and has been so bouncy and happy - the best thing is his breath is fantastic now!

Casey had the results of his blood tests as he hasn't been 100% since arriving at Daybreaks and because of this went to the vets on Wednesday to have the first of his Vitamin B12 injections. We are keeping a close eye on him and will keep you posted with how he gets on.

Today I took Ace for her vaccinations - sadly she was very overdue so will need to go back in a few weeks time for the second part of her course but I am sure she won't mind as she had plenty of fuss from everyone at Fivelands - she is so sweet but so nervous.

The electrics were completed and we are extremely pleased that the Coventry Road is now cone free again - it has caused a bit of a traffic nightmare over the last couple of days but it will be worth it.

Well we certainly managed to slow the traffic down on the Coventry Road today! One lane was closed while Western Power completed their part of the re-wire for the kennels.

It didn't interfere with taking the dogs out for their walks and I am sure they must have all had a look into the very large hole that appeared along the road. :))

After a chilly start the sun came out for a while and helped dry the washing. :)

Who stole Spring??! What a grotty day it was, cold, windy and grey - obviously everyone else thought the same as it was very quiet indeed. Fortunately the rain held off most of the day meaning the dogs could have two walks.

New couple George & Belle are absolutely lovely. Belle is a very playful girl, and George reminds me so much of the handsome Rio, both in looks and demeanour. Like Rio he too has to put up with a bouncy kennel mate and gives you a very long suffering look indeed!!

Still working on getting the bedding store into some semblance of order - and a big thank you for the donations of duvets today, stocks were getting low!

We have some lucky hounds going home over the weekend, and I'm hoping that we'll also get some more lovely red signs for some of our other residents too.

Thanks to everyone who came along to walk the dogs today.

We had two new arrivals today, Belle and George. Belle wanted to help with the washing and had great fun pulling a duvet cover off the side of the run where it was drying nicely and jumped all over it! :))

I just been informed that Western Power are coming to finish the kennels re-wire on THURSDAY 23rd MARCH. It is hoped this will finish on Friday 24th March.

Work will start at 9.15 am and to enable this work to be done, one lane of the A45 will be closed off! This is obviously going to cause chaos and traffic on the Coventry Road so we advise you to try not and visit if you are coming in a vehicle especially.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but we can't wait for the project to be completed. We are just short of completing our fundraising for this, so if you would like to donate, please do - here is our link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wiringhelp

Many thanks to Mary and John for taking care of the dogs very early this morning! The rest of us were very tempted to go out for breakfast. :) but Angie used the extra time to tackle the bedding store which needs some serious sorting out. :)

We are hoping to have a new roof for the very leaky kitchen and the top kennel block. A gentleman and his son came to take some measurements this morning...Jeremy had just arrived and found himself being used to see how much higher the new roof should be! Well he is 6'5"! :)

Brilliant to see Maggie and Jerry both reserved today. :)

A very busy day for Jess with pamper sessions and we had lots of visitors to use the run. :)

Thanks so much to everyone who helped out today.

Well, what an incredibly quiet day today! No volunteers this morning meant I could bring the dogs out for cuddles and biscuits! Our three new boys are absolutely lovely, and are adjusting very well to their new life with us.
The weather was quite good, although not as lovely as yesterday, and as volunteers arrived for the afternoon, the dogs managed to get a nice walk down the lane.
We have some viewings booked for the weekend, so fingers crossed.

Well now... Paul and I saw all the police cars on the A45 as we drove past the kennels on our way to the NEC today. We wondered what on earth was happening and we're pleased we were going in the opposite direction as the was a big tailback heading towards Birmingham. Now we know !! Nice try asking for a donation Kate! Xx

Another new arrrival today..the very handsome Dante!

Our three boys from HMP Littlehey are settling well, they are all in fantastic condition. :) Casey and Foxy went off to help out at Crufts this afternoon. I was told they both did very well considering it was a completely new experience for them. x

It was a beautiful day, so walking was a pleasure for both dogs and humans! Thanks to volunteers from The Brain Injury unit who took Rio and his energetic little kennel mate Maggie for a nice long walk. :) Maggie was a quiet girl when she came back. Xx

We had a Policeman use the run today! There was an incident on the Coventry Road which involved several policemen and a helicopter chasing three suspects around the nearby fields. I did tell the Policman we usually ask for a donation to use the run; he laughed so I think I got away with it! :))

Yesterday Kate and I visited HMP Littlehey in Cambridgeshire where we collected three boys - Benny, Casey and Foxy. The boys have been part of a project approved by Head Office where specially selected inmates take care of the dogs. A couple of the boys have been there for 18 months so it is definitely time they found a home to retire. We are helping with a continuing rotation so we will be there again in 6 weeks and are being given regular updates on those in their care.
The boys are absolutely gorgeous so if you would like any more information please give us a call.

Fabulous and very productive day yesterday! The whole place was jet washed, the treatment room was put back together after having the new lino fitted and it looks great and the toy buckets had a blitz.

We saw Mango and Lady's new owner who came to visit and they have new names and have settled in really well.

Sammy, although failing his original cat test spent over an hour in the cat room without reacting and had nearly an hour running around with Bea the Beagle in the sand run. This happily has secured him a new home and he is off this afternoon! The bath is on ready for our new arrivals later - can't wait to meet them.

As we speak the treatment room floor is being repaired. Sadly the floor had started to collapse due to the damp however it has done extremely well over the last 7 years with the amount of use and water!!!!
The new wood has been fitted and is now being treated and tomorrow we hope to find time to go and get the lino to complete the job. Thank you to Andy and his Dad for doing this - however I would like to go home now as I am COLD!!!! I have caught up on some paperwork however and still over the moon at taking Lady and Mango out to their new home this afternoon and seeing them settle in so well with Bonnie who is Foxy's litter sister!

What a horrible morning, we got well and truly soaked cleaning the kennels. It was brightened up by lots of visitors and walkers mid morning and the fantastic re-homing of Lady / Mango (who have been rehomed together) and Finch now called Daphne. (Angie did you happen to have any of these 3 as your screen saver by chance ???) Ruth was normal Ruth - in an out of the kennels doing errands like a bumble bee (really dont know where she gets her energy from). We had the lovely Andy and his dad, replacing the much needed treatment room floor !!! All dogs managed to get morning and afternoon walks in pretty much dry weather.... The highlight of my day was a visit from Teezer and Mel with their sister.... It was so lovely to see them again. xx

What a wet & soggy day that was!! No volunteers this morning meant the dogs couldn't go out for walks - I somehow think they weren't too upset about it! Fortunately by the afternoon the rain had died down, volunteers arrived and the dogs got an afternoon walk. I would like to make an official request for it to be Spring now please so we can get some decent weather!!
Lady is doing fine and had a little play with her toys this afternoon. She was quite reluctant to let go of squeaky piggy - until a jumbone appeared on the scene!! Bless her, she really would love to have her own sofa very soon.
We have had another tidy up and move round in the office, and we are slowly tackling all those jobs that are always at the back of your mind but that you don't get the time to do. Slowly but surely were getting there!
Big thanks to Paul who brought in a huge donation of bedding from a Food Bank that he also volunteers at - this time of year it is virtually impossible to get any washing dry so we are always desperate for towels, duvets and blankets.
Lets hope this weekend brings some forever homes for our lovely boys & girls.

Jess and Kitty arrived today. They are both very sweet girls hopefully they won't have to wait too long for their forever homes.

We had dry weather for the walks this morning but it was very grotty this afternoon! Thanks to everyone for braving the wind and rain to go out. :)

Thanks to Shirley and Richard for all the tins of sardines. Shirley fell in love with little Maggie and despite our best efforts Richard was sensible saying three Greyhounds were enough for them :)

It was good to see Sara, Louis and Charlie today. Sara is now sporting a black plaster cast on her poor broken foot! I didn't help by treading on it at least twice during the afternoon. :)

Goodbye February! Hello March and hopefully Spring! Xxx

Met out latest new arrivals today, Wow they are both gorgeous! Little Maggie is an extremely pretty, friendly girl and Stefie is a tall handsome and very friendly lad. :)

It was great to see some old friends today, Carrie, Jackie and Clifford who came in to help walk the dogs this morning. Jackie and Clifford brought Billy B with them and he went on every walk! Sure he had a well earned rest when he got home! :) Thanks so much everyone.

Due to the torrential rain this afternoon all the dogs came out into the kennel runs for a nice groom and some serious toy playing time! Along with lots of extra cuddles of course. :)

A very busy day!

Gracie was reserved and it was great to see Maddie (Dooey) go home with Sarah and her family. :) We said farewell to Patch too; his Mom collected him while his excited family waited at home for their return. Wishing Maddie and Patch very happy new lives.

The run was busy with visitors including a group of very cute Pomsky Dogs, a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian! :)

We also had several Greyhounds leave the kennels looking and smelling lovely after having pamper sessions with Lorna and Jess. :)

Thanks so much to everyone who came in to help today. The dogs were all able to go out for their walks and Johnny D, Mango and Finch enjoyed trips to the park. Xxx

It was such a lovely calm and sunny day today, what a contrast from yesterday! The dogs all enjoyed a play in the sand run in the sunshine this morning, but we had lots of volunteers by the afternoon so they could all have a walk.

The Failed Foster Parents Club gained some new members as Lucy brought her "foster" Mum & Dad in to sign on the dotted line! Her new brother and sister, Woody and Suzy, came along too to oversee everything and get in on the lovely homing photo!

Norman took the very pretty little Gracie out for the morning and reports that she was a very good girl, really enjoying her time out in the big wide world.

Thank you to the visitors who brought in donations of bedding & towels, always very welcome. And big thanks to Stanley & Gemma's Dad Tim who visited today and brought some lovely goodies for the humans lunch - very nice indeed.

The lovely Dooey found herself reserved late this afternoon - she is going to join the Lloyd clan. After the very sad passing of Mikey earlier in the week, his best pal Cadbury was very lonely and quiet and it was felt that a new companion in the shape of the very lovely little Dooey was just what he needed.

Here's hoping that the weekend brings some more forever homes for our beautiful residents.

What an incredibly windy day!! Fortunately all at the kennels was fine and none of the dogs seemed particularly disturbed by the weather. Going for walks were a little hazardous, a tree had come down in Old Damson Lane completely blocking it and the gusts of wind made walking along the Coventry Road quite dangerous. This afternoon most of the dogs went in the run, safer for all of us. :)

Do hope everyone and their dogs stayed safe today. When I got home tonight I found we had lost part of our front fence! Xxx

What a lovely day it was today, almost Spring like and it made such a change to move around without being bundled up in 6 layers and freezing!!

The dogs didn't get morning walks so some had a good old pay in the run (Jill, I think it is Lady's party trick to get as much sand on her head as possible!!!) whilst others had to put up with me giving them a groom and a cuddle!

It was lovely to see ex resident Jimmy and his Dad who came along to buy some food, treats and toys. Jimmy had great fun choosing his own toy, and ended up selecting a lovely squeaky orange chicken!

Volunteers this afternoon meant the dogs could enjoy a lovely walk down the lane in the sunshine.

New boy Rio is an absolute stunner. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with Nicola, our wheelchair visitor, and stood beautifully while she groomed him and gave him plenty of fuss. She was smitten by him, as are a lot of us!!

We do indeed have a kennel full of beauties at the moment, so lets hope that this weekend that special someone will walk through the door and a lucky boy or girl (or both!) will find their forever home.

Nice weather for walking today! I had the pleasure of going out on a couple of walks this afternoon. There were plenty of squirrels around, Lady's ears couldn't have stood up any taller!! :)

It was great to have Sara back helping at the kennels today complete with crutches and a big boot! Skip was so pleased to see his buddies Louis and Charlie. :) He has been a proper grump without them!

We are desperate to find homes for all of our current residents. Even though the kennels are cosy and comfortable and the dogs get lots of love and attention, it's not the same as having a home and a family of their own. We have a very long waiting list of Greyhounds who have retired from racing and are waiting to come into the Trust to have the chance of finding a forever home. Greyhounds are wonderful dogs and make fantastic pets. Please, please, please consider opening your home and heart to one of the special dogs you see on our website. You won't regret it! X

Patch was a good boy last night. :) He did get us all up at 5.30am and as he had a very early breakfast he had another one when he got back to the kennels. Well he didn't have much to eat yesterday. :)

We spent today dodging the snow showers and trying to keep warm!

Poor Ruth is on the sick list, at home in bed fighting a very nasty chest problem.

No volunteers this morning meant the dogs couldn't have a walk - something I don't think they were too sad about! Instead they had health checks and were groomed and generally pampered! They had walks in the afternoon, but were in a hurry to get out of the snow and back to the warmth of their cosy kennels.

Snap is such a good boy with his new medication, he has to have it more frequently than before, but stands beautifully to have the drops in and never makes a fuss. I really hope that this new treatment will bring some improvement for him.

Here's hoping that the weather improves as I really don't like Winter and would like it to end now please!

Little Vegas went off to the vets first thing this morning for her neutering operation. She is staying with Ruth tonight for some extra tlc...hopefully she can look after Ruth too who was feeling quite poorly today. :(

This afternoon Johnie and Snap also went off to the vets, vaccination boosters for them both. Snap has also been prescribed some new medication for his eyes. On his last review the vet said although Snaps eyes were no worse, he was disappointed there was no improvement either. The new medication is slightly stronger than before...keep your fingers crossed there is good news when he has his next review. He is such a gentle soul. xx

Sara and her broken foot popped in to see us this afternoon. We managed to talk her out of going for a walk! She settled for tidying the kitchen instead. :))

I saw something very unusual today...the SUN! It does exist :) I know all our volunteers appreciated the sunshine and I am sure the dogs did too :)

We had two new arrivals today, A very happy girl called Vegas who bounced into the kennels and a handsome lad called Patch who was a little more reserved and unsure of his new surroundings. Many thanks to Bob for collecting them from the track for us. Xx

The Pet Blood Bank were with us today taking donations from pet Greyhounds. It was like a Daybreaks family reunion! it really is so uplifting to see so many happy dogs who are obviously adored by their owners. Smile of the day came when a certain gentleman who left his four Greyhounds in the kennel run with their post donation goodie bags while he popped into the office...needless to say they were busily trying to empty the bags before he got back! :))

If you are interested in bringing your Greyhound to the kennels for the next visit from the Pet Blood Bank, please give us a call on 0121 782 7702 for more information. Each donation can help to save the lives of up to four other dogs.

Many thanks to the kind people who dropped off donations of food and car boot items today.

Two gorgeous Greyhounds went off to their new homes today; Firstly Rover brought his new sister Isla in to officially sign her paperwork. What a lovely couple they make! Isla provided the best sight of the day. After Ruth removed the stitches left from her neutering operation, Isla turned on her back with all her legs in the air and went to sleep, one relaxed and happy girl! :)

H went home today too. :) so very happy for him. I know he is going to be spoiled rotten!

Jembob took Snap and Lucy out for the day. They had a great time in the park and were taken out for lunch too!

Thanks to Norman for taking Moe out to the Pets At Home store in Stratford for a roadshow. Norman said he was a big hit with everyone. :)

Jo brought her lovely Stevie in for a pamper with Jess. Wonderful to see him looking so well after he was very poorly a few weeks ago.

It was a very quiet day today, but this meant I was able to go on both morning and afternoon walks - it made a lovely change and meant I could get to know our lovely boys & girls just a little bit better. Johnie jumped up onto his bed and stood so patiently waiting for me to lead him up, despite kennel mate Finch leaping all over the place! Having said this she did stand nicely to have her lead on and they are a lovely couple to walk. Midge was very nervous of the outside world to start with, but sandwiched between H and Lady her confidence grew and she walked along nicely.

The weather was really quite nice this morning with some lovely sunshine, but we watched the clouds gather during the afternoon and we managed to get the last afternoon walk done just before the rain started - phew!

I must confess that Snap & Lucy's kennel does look rather strange - but poor Lucy really doesn't like reflected movement bless her.

We have some beautiful Greys in kennels at the moment, here's hoping that this weekend will bring some well deserved forever sofas.

hmmmmm... I am really not sure what the comments will be from visitors who come to Daybreaks when they see Snap and Lucy's kennel!!! The ceiling is an issue for Lucy as it is shiny white plastic and she can see her own movements which seems to stress her. We have tried attaching sheets to the ceiling but as they kept falling down, she now has newspapers decorating it (as we didn't want to use plain printer paper wastefully!!!!) So.... this little lass is well clued up on Ant and Dec, Trump & Brexit to name a few - poor thing!
She's shouting - I'm a Greyhound - GET ME OUT OF HERE and I think Snap her kennel mate is echoing that!!!!!

It was absolutely freezing this morning - so much so that the hosepipe was a frozen pipesicle and I had to resort to the old fashioned method of filling buckets from the tap to scrub the runs!! I came armed with a pocket full of plasters today following last week's scissor incident but fortunately I was an accident free zone today!
It was a quiet morning volunteers wise so the dogs couldn't have a walk, but enjoyed a bit of fuss and grooming, and fortunately this afternoon saw lots of volunteers so everyone had a lovely walk in the weak sunshine that had showed itself after lunch.
We cat tested Peggy, Jingle and H who all unfortunately failed - but I'm sure there will be a cat free home out there for them all somewhere.
Thanks to everyone who helped out today.
Angie xx

Brr.....what a very, very cold day!

Thank you to everyone who braved the elements to take the dogs for a walk :)

It was great to see ex Daybreaks resident Tango come to use the run, he didn't seem to mind the cold. Having the sand run means we get to see lots of old friends and their families. :)

H was very happy to get back to his kennel after his dinner, I didn't even have to hold onto him, he ran back in and dived on his bed!

We left them all snug in their coats and the under bed heating on tonight. :)

How long is it until spring?!

Sammy looks better today and was able to go for a short walk. He is a very happy lad. Sara was taking some new photos of him this afternoon but he was far more interested in trying to get cuddles from Jess who was holding his lead!

H had a trip to the park with Norman this morning, they both had a lovely time. :)

Ex Daybreaks resident Lola came in to use the run, such a pretty girl. :)

We had a lot of volunteers today so the dogs had their morning and afternoon walks. :)

Thank you to everyone who helped out at the kennels and to the very kind visitors who brought in bedding and towels.

Wonderful to see Peggy officially adopted today. While Linda and Paul were signing the paperwork she made herself useful by helping to empty the bin! Sister Lena found herself a big bag of toys to look through and finally settled on a squeaky owl, which she proudly took home with her! Both such lovely girls. Xx

Little Florence came in with her Mom for a pamper session this morning, such a dainty little girl...she has got quite a wardrobe of coats now. Think she might be in competition with Daisydog! :))

Unfortunately we didn't have enough people for walks this morning but this afternoon some of the dogs went in the sand run and others went for walks. I had the pleasure of taking Ladysmith out she walks great on the lead and is now a lot happier with the heavy traffic on the Coventry Road. I also walked Mango, he is a great boy, kind of does his own thing when walking! He just needs a little help to walk the same way as everyone else!! :)

Thanks so much to Sara and Holly for all their help today. Xxx

Well, what a day we have had... It was SO cold and at one point this morning we had more people at the kennels than dogs. Thanks to everyone who braved the cold to walk the dogs and help clean this morning. Lovely Sammy was so good and still very happy, he is making a good recovery, even with his cone of shame. Finch and Johnie were there normal playfull selves and kept us amused. We had lots of visitors for viewings, food, nail cutting and to use our lovely sand run. The highlight of my day was the lovely Lorraine who I spoke to throughout the day.... Let's just say, Lady was TOO much of a fab dog to turn down and her heart won at the end of the day and she just had to give in and reserve her !!!! Yay, congrats Lorraine, I am so pleased.

Sammy was quite bright today. As he was unable to go for walks, he spent some time in the kennel run playing with toys with one of our volunteers. He also had a nice groom, he enjoyed all the extra attention. Xx

Snap and Lucy went to the park with Jeremy and Julie...for an hour...returned several hours later having gone home with them for lunch! :) Sounds as though they had a great time. Do hope it wont be long before special forever homes come along for both of them. Still hoping they will go home together! :))

Thank you to Tina and her dogs Neve and River for taking H for his first trip to the park this morning. Xxx

We had lots of visitors to use the run including a Goldendoodle and two Lhasapoos...all very cute! The run is open whatever the weather, the dogs don't seem to mind :) and there is a summerhouse to shelter in if it should rain or snow when you visit!

Alan brought Paddy in to see us today and have his nails trimmed. He looked very handsome in his winter coat. He took a Liking to a couple of the girls looking for homes! Xx

Many thanks to everyone who helped out on what was a very chilly day. Xxx

What a chilly day it was again today, but at least it was nice to see some sunshine. My hands were so cold this morning I managed to cut my finger with the scissors - don't ask!!

Poor Sammy had to have a dash back to the Vet this morning following his castrate yesterday - poor lamb had become very swollen and red and was feeling very sorry for himself. He now has a course of antibiotics and I hope he feels a bit brighter soon, such a lovely boy.

It was nice to meet the new arrivals today, H is a gorgeous big boy, who had somehow managed to undo his fleece during the night and greeted me this morning with a very waggy tail and his leg through the neck hole!! Isla is a cutey, and is happily sharing her kennel with the lovely Mango. Snap and Lucy are still my clean kennel award winners bless them, such a great couple and Snap is such a patient boy having his eye drops in.

Thank you to everyone who came along to help out today, there were plenty of helpers and we managed to get some little jobs done as well as the dogs having two lots of walks.

H and Isla stopped the night at mine last night following their surgery at the vets yesterday. They both are very bright and have been settled into their kennels today - however Isla got to spend some time in the kitchen being cuddled by the volunteers!

Sammy went off for his castrate today and was golden at the vets - what a star!

Somehow Miss Fizz Bomb is still coming home with me! It is a pleasure to see her developing into a wonderful pet however the sad news is she can't stop with me. Please please please offer her a home. She sleeps downstairs and then comes up the stairs on her own in the morning to say hello and that she needs to go outside! She is great on the lead (she is only having short walks currently as she is post op) and absolutely fine being left. Please give the kennels a call if you think you could offer her a home x Here's her link: http://www.rgtperrybarr.co.uk/dog/1759

A very wet and miserable Monday....but the dogs didn't care! Most of them went in the sand run for a play. :) They also all had some extra grooming and tlc.

It was great to see Yogi and Fin leave to start their new lives with their new families, both very gorgeous boys, lots of happiness to them both. Xxx

Sadly it was too wet to carry on with painting the new door; hopefully the sun will make an appearance later in the week!

Well it was a definite Friday the 13th today!! I got stuck in the awful traffic jam on the A45 on my way to the kennels this morning, and my usual 8 minute journey took me 1 hour and 10 minutes!! Thank goodness for mobile phones, at least I could contact Ruth who managed to get to the kennels ok and open up, otherwise there would have been lots of Greyhounds with crossed legs by the time I arrived!!

Fizz went off to the Vets to be speyed this morning, and will overnight at Ruth's just to make sure she recovers well.

It was such a cold day, fortunately it didn't snow again after the morning's onslaught and the sun even put in an appearance gently thawing the snow and making everywhere soaking wet!!

Unsurprisingly it was a very, very quiet day indeed, I suspect nobody wanted to brave the weather, and I cant say I blame them! The dogs played in the sand run this morning, but managed to get a short walk this afternoon.
I met the fabulous new arrivals, and my goodness they are so lovely. I can see why Yogi has been snapped up so quickly, what a stunner he is. With his paws on my shoulders, he has to bend a bit to give me a kiss as he is such a big fella!
Friday the 13th continued as I broke the broom whilst scrubbing the runs this afternoon - sorry Ruth!
Thank you to everyone who came out on such a horrid day, the dogs appreciated there afternoon walk very much.
I left them all this evening tucked up in fleecy coats, with the underbed heating going, they all looked cosy and content.
I have just one thing to say - roll on the Spring!

What a busy day! The Pet Blood bank came along for an emergency session and Lady, Mango, Moe, Johnie and Finch all donated. In return we get flea treatment for each and of course a full veterinary check and the knowledge that each donation results in 4 lives saved.

The handsome Yogi was reserved but blotted his copy book by doing a wee in the office as he was being viewed! This didn't deter his new owners who have just lost their greyhound though!

A second coat of primer was due to go on the gate but I haven't had chance yet!!! If anyone wants to lend a hand tomorrow doing this I would be enormously grateful!!!

Ruth Started to paint the new door and has put the undercoat on. Still can't get over how easy it is to open and close :)

This morning I spoke to their new owners who said they had had a very settled night with no accidents...... I am SO happy!!!!

Wonderful to see Gigi and Diesel reserved today. :)

Now the holidays are over we can get back to normal and get more new residents into the kennels. Lady and Peggy are due to come back from their Christmas break tomorrow. Sounds as though they have had a great time. :). We are hoping they won't have to wait too much longer for forever homes for them both.

A real highlight for us today was a brand new front door for the kennels!! It is brilliant...locking the old door was becoming a real challenge as you had to throw yourself at it to be able to lock it! Much more civilised to be able to close it gently! Thanks so much to Chad for fitting it for us. It just needs painting now. Xxx

After working through Christmas, I had a New Year break in Scotland and was back to the kennels yesterday - oh how I miss it when I am not there! I am in heaven with the most gorgeous group of greys at the moment but my definite favorite has got to be Mango!

I paired Finch with Johnie this morning and the cheeky pair have done nothing but play - they are such a happy couple!

Gigi has spent some time in the kitchen today - why on earth she has not been chosen I just don't know.... she is such a sweet and beautiful girl. Therefore she is the one who is going to come home with me tonight so she can have a break from the kennels and sample home life.

We have new arrivals coming on Sunday to fill those empty kennels :-)

What a cold, grey & gloomy day it was today. However, it was cheered up as always by the beautiful Greys we currently have in residence. Snap & Lucy are my clean kennel award winners again - and I am still convinced they are sneaking out at night and sleeping somewhere else!! Such a lovely couple - Snap went to the Vets today and has had some more tests on his eyes, and until the results come through he has to carry on with his eye drops. He is such a good, calm and patient boy whilst having these put in, bless him I hope that something can be sorted for him.
With so many dogs out on foster, it was very strange having empty kennels today - but it gave us the opportunity to spend some real quality time with the dogs which they all really loved. Finch is a "leaner", a quiet girly but with a fun side that is starting to emerge. Johnie is such a big boy, but so friendly and so much fun - a real gentle giant.
It was good to see the pretty Tiny, now called Diamond, off to her forever home this morning - all the best to her and her new family.
Many thanks to everyone who came along to help out today -I think we had more volunteers than dogs this afternoon!!!
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and safe New Year.

Lots of help today meant the dogs could have both morning and afternoon walks. Fortunately the forecast rain held off but it was very windy indeed.
I had the pleasure of going on one of the morning walks, and took the gorgeous Johnie and pretty little Finch. For a big boy, Johnie walks beautifully and periodically does a little hop and a skip, so cute and just sums up this happy boy. Both he and Finch were a little unsure of the horrible wind though, the noise of it blowing through the trees and the leaves swirling around behind them were a little disconcerting to say the least!
Thanks to Jess for taking Peggy and Lady out for a much needed break from kennel routine. They both had a lovely time out in the park, and certainly enjoyed their supper, both polishing off big bowls of Burns and sardines - the fresh air obviously did them good!
Huge thanks to the visitors who came in with fish for the dogs, and chocolates for the humans today! I think we will all need to go on plenty of walks in the New Year to trim down our waistlines!!
Huge thanks to everyone who came along to help out today, wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I'm sure that all our Greys would like to add a big thank you too to everyone who has come along during the year to take them on walks, or trips to the park, or just spend some time with them - they wish everyone a woofy Christmas.

Plenty of help today so the dogs got both morning and afternoon walks.

Ruth managed to start the blitz on the back area this morning. we had a very lovely large unit donated which has taken up residence on the cat room and looks great. Tyke gave it her seal of approval by climbing inside as soon as one of the doors was opened and settling down for a snooze! It means we can keep all things "cat" in one area, and now houses the overspill of leaflets and pamphlets - we're starting to get tidy again!

This afternoon saw the lovely Suzy off to her new home, wishing her and her new family lots of good times ahead.

Many thanks to everyone who came along to help out today, it was cold but thankfully the rain kept off. It still gets dark far too early for my liking though, cant wait for the Spring!

We had lots of visitors today bringing Christmas goodies for the dogs and the volunteers...thank you all very much! :) Thanks to Alan for the donuts, he was very cruel and sent Ruth a photo of them! We did save one for her. :)

Snap had a review with the vet regarding his eye problem. He has more eye drops and has to go back again next week. Thanks to Sue for taking him for us. She said he was a very well behaved lad, no trouble at all. :)

Poor Jordan, she has split her tail. We took off the dressing and it looked all good, unfortunately within half an hour she had painted her kennel red and had to have another dressing applied. She didn't seem to mind what was going on and enjoyed the extra attention. Xx

What a day of busy excitement. We seemed to not stop for a minute. The lovely Bebe who is Coffey's litter sister came in, such a calm natured girl. We had plenty of volunteers, which enabled us to do all the walks. There was plenty of viewings, here's hoping the "dogs of the day, Coffey, Penny, genie" find themselves a home soon !!! We had many visitors to see all three of these today, so most of the say they spent in the runs being cuddled !! When I arrived this morning, I couldn't get up the drive as it was blocked by all manner of vans, rollers and assorted tarmac laying equipment!! The guys worked hard all day and the trench is all filled in and tarmacked, and the drive is back in use again now.
Today was very quiet, both customers and volunteers, so this afternoon saw the dogs getting some play time in the sand run. They loved running about and playing with the toys, it's a nice change for them to let off some steam!!
Rover came back from the Vets this afternoon as bright as a button following his castrate and polished off his bowl of Burns & pilchards bless him.
We have some viewings booked for the weekend so fingers crossed that another of our Greys has their own sofa for Christmas. x

What a busy week! The week is flying by so apologies for no updates for the past few days from me!

Yesterday we had 3 volunteers from Interserve which included non other than Paul Williams, the Chairman of Perry Barr RGT. It was great having extra helpers in addition to our usual crew and despite the heavy rain at times, we had a great day.

We were joined by some students studying Film Technology at Birmingham City University who spent most of the day filming the work we do and Lady had a great time in the run playing with a visiting Beagle and Dalmation!

Teddy seems to have taken up residence in the kitchen now as he has learnt that he gets to go there to keep him quiet!!!!

On Tuesday, I we had the fabulous gift of a van to use for the Trust! This has been donated from MT Services - the company for whom one of our volunteers works for and I am extremely grateful to them for thinking of us and their generosity!

The workmen have been busy digging up and refilling the driveway with laying the new cable for the electrics so we couldn't get up the drive this morning but all should be back to 'normal' by tomorrow. Rover has gone in for his castrate this morning, so not such a good day for him!

Snap came with us; He was on his way to see the vet. Unfortunately he has an eye problem. :( He was perfect in the car, went to sleep and I didn't know he was there. He was also a very good boy at the vets...he stood patiently while he was examined. He has three lots of drops for his eyes and has to go back to see the vet next week. x

Ruth and little Sarah then went off to the warehouse....it was dark by the time they got back!

Work continued on digging up the drive to lay the electric cable, many apologies to the lads carrying out the work...I don't think we made them any coffee today!

Brrr.....a really cold day! The Digger arrived first thing this morning, we have a nice trench all along the drive; Complete with new electric cable! :)

It was "the morning after the night before" at the kennels...Christmas gift bags, decorations the odd mince pie and tins of fish everywhere :) Thank you so much for all the donations of sardines and pilchards. The dogs really enjoy them.

The dogs had a play in the sand run this afternoon...it's brilliant to see them having such a great time! I am sure you can see them smiling as they run :) The only exception was Jordan; she retired due to a broken hock so is taking things easy for a while. She went out for a walk. Such a cute little girl.

Thank you to the person who made the tuna treats...the dogs loved them! Xxx

We were greeted with a lovely snow scene in Gigi's kennel this morning! The duvet looked a little tattered and torn but Gigi looked very pleased with herself! Xx

It was brilliant to see Tina reserved today. :) She is a super girl.

Thanks to Sara all the dogs enjoyed a sausage roll with their dinners this afternoon. They loved them...I think Missy ate hers whole! :)

Many thanks to the visitors who brought in tins of sardines today and thank you to everyone who helped out with looking after our lovely hounds.

Don't forget it's our Christmas Party tomorrow...10am - 4pm. It would be lovely to see our friends two legged and four! Xxx

A very quiet day today, both visitors and helpers. The dogs got a long walk this morning, but as we were reduced in numbers even further at lunchtime, this afternoon was spent doing health checks and grooming - the Greys enjoy this almost as much as a walk as it gives them plenty of one to one time and of course lots of fuss!
The lovely Tina decided to help out this morning by dragging down the coats & towels that were hanging over the run and making them into a pile! Bless her, she's got a little cheeky side that is starting to come out.
This afternoon saw cute little Kizzy off to her new home, wishing her and her new family all the best as they start their new lives together.
The kennels is looking very festive indeed ahead of our Christmas party on Sunday, and scarily there's only 23 days until Christmas - I'd better start some shopping soon!

Thanks to Jill and the volunteers yesterday for putting up the Christmas tree. :) Can't believe it is only a few weeks until Christmas!

A very Happy Birthday to two of our residents; Missy is six and Tina is three. Extra cuddles for them both today. :) Do hope their forever homes are just around the corner.

I agree with Robdog&Will's-dad...the new Grapevine Magazine is great and a good way of finding out what everyone has been up to!

Work is continuing on installing the new electric wiring....a hole has appeared at the bottom of the drive ready for the new cable, and the Digger will be back on Monday to dig up the rest of the drive!

We had lots of help today, which was great as we were able to do some of those jobs that never seem to get done :) Many thanks to Gail for sorting out the fridge and the bedding store. :) Thanks to everyone for your help today. Xxx

Just finished reading the latest Grapevine issue. Loads of good stuff as usual, and a quiz on page 25. All you have to do is work out from the cryptic clues, 10 football teams-easy! Argos voucher up for grabs for the winner. So over the festive period forget trivial pursuit and get the quiz out. Good luck & clues can be given for a gravy bone or two! Robdog&Willbill.xx

Hi, I was browsing the thread last night and came across the posts about Jack and his diagnosis. I have no experience with animals with Kidney Failure but many years ago I was nanny to a boy who's mom had Kidney Failure. I did all the cooking so glad to get to grips with it, tomatoes are a no no, so watch the sardines and pilchards. For potatoes you need to boil out the potassium without over cooking them so that the salts re-enter. I know Greys love there potato - i invented the jacket potato for sufferers and was delighted to learn recently that my method is still being recommended. You boil the whole potato for 10 mins in lots of water, drain it and repeat. The dry it off and put in the oven as normal, I am sure Jack would enjoy one. Also have a look at 'Natures Menu - Country Hunter' food. It is all natural and if you order direct they deliver it themselves, Batleys also sell the raw nuggets. I am sure they would offer you advise if you asked. Hoping Jack improves and had a long happy future ahead. X

Ooh it was cold today! Thanks so much to everyone who braved the winter weather to take the dogs out for a walk this morning. :)

We have had a few messy kennels the last couple of days...but Lady really is a Lady....her kennel has been spotless everyday. :) Thanks to Norman for taking her to the park today.

We had two new arrivals today, Rover...a good old fashioned name! And Coffey. Both very handsome lads. I managed to frighten Coffey when I tried to pop a coat over his head.... :( but he seemed happier when he had his diner this afternoon!

We left the dogs all snug in their Fleeces and underbed heating on tonight...don't forget to put your Greyhound's pjamas on at bedtime if your heating goes off at night. My lad Skip was too lazy to get out of his bed to have his fleece on last night. He woke us up in the early hours by trotting into the bedroom looking for warmth. They really don't like being cold :) Xxx

A beautiful sunny day, very different from last Monday with all the rain. Despite it being rather chilly the dogs enjoyed their walks.

It was brilliant to see Billy go off to his new home today. His new family took him home just as the other dogs were having their dinners...he was a little put out not to get his. He does love his food! :) We will all miss him but we are so very happy for him. :)

Lisa picked up our Christmas Tree today...ready for the Christmas Open Day on Sunday. Please come along and wish the current Daybreaks Residents a Happy Christmas. If you can spare a tin of fish they would be very grateful. Xxx

A lovely bright, sunny day ensured the dogs got both morning and afternoon walks today.
This morning saw the handsome Tommy off to his new home - Unfortunately the camera battery was flat, so I had to take the homing photo on my phone. My next challenge is to actually get said photo from the phone onto the website!! Watch this space, you will get to see it at some point!
We had a delivery of Nature Diet food this afternoon, and it was all hands on deck to get over 150 boxes moved from the driveway round into storage. It was certainly a great aerobic workout for us all - who needs the gym, just spend a day volunteering at the kennels!!
The Grapevine arrived this afternoon, so Ruth and I spent many happy hours filling and franking envelopes so they could catch this evening's post. Look out for your copy to arrive in the next few days.
Thank you to everyone who helped out today.

Shani. I have tried some of the recipes on this website: http://www.bdws.co.uk/category/dog-food-recipes/
Some may not be suitable but it makes sense to make your own treats and to know exactly what goes into them. The recipes I have tried so far have been easy, cheap and went down well with the hounds at the kennels. Kate tried one of the sardine oat cakes herself and said they were tasty. She may well have finished off the whole bag after we left!

Hi, last month we found out that our precious and so beautiful boy Jack aged 6 is in the early stages of kidney failure. Our vet has advised us to feed him a prescription diet to help control his condition. He said to try either Royal Cannin or Puerina, i just wondered if anybody else has been in this situation and has any advise on which to feed. Also what we can give him for treats which are low protein, any advise would be much appreciated. We want to make sure we do everything possible to give him what he needs and keep him with us for as long as possible, he so deserves it. Thank you.

Brilliant news to hear we are in the final for the Aviva Community Fund!!

Apart from a little drizzle it was a dry day....we were able to go for morning and afternoon walks. I had the great pleasure of walking Teddy and Peggy. They really enjoy going out for a walk. :)

Lizzie arrived today. She is already reserved and will hopefully be going home in the next few days. She is a very pretty girl, a little shy when she first arrived but I got a gentle wag of her tail and a couple of kisses before I went home tonight. She is sharing the kitchen kennel with Teddy and Peggy :)

Ruth was right when she mentioned how happy we were when Derek found us a manual key for the the gate...he must have thought we were quite mad when we told him we loved him!...He was back working on the electrics today and he also fixed the printer! :)

We had a young lady visit this afternoon to take some photographs of the dogs for a college project. Billy and Timmy were real stars showing off; almost as if they knew the camera was there :)

Thanks so much to everyone who came in to help today...many thanks to Diane for the homemade date and walnut cake! :)

Despite our very wet miserable day yesterday, Kate forgot to mention the highlight of our day was getting a manual key for the electric gate on the drive!!! We have been trying to get another for over a year since the last one went AWOL and Derek who is working on the re-wire happened to have one! We are so easily pleased :-)

The re-wire is under way and work to lay the new cables will start on 30th November until 3rd December. During this time the drive will be un-accessible and hope this doesn't cause too much inconvenience and we are desperately hoping the driveway is useable ready for our Christmas open day on Sunday 4th December.

What an incredibly wet day! We couldn't take the dogs out for any walks as it just rained and rained and rained!! Instead we took them into small runs and got the toys out. :) Billy loves playing with toys and will happily give them back to you. Tina had a great time playing with the ball chasing it around. Poor little lady wasn't sure what to do and ran away from them!

The rain got heavier this afternoon and we ended up with a flood in the kennels when the drain couldn't cope with so much water. Missy had to paddle out of her kennel for her dinner; she didn't mind...she loves her food and a little bit of water wasn't going to stop her from getting to her food :)) Fortunately after bailing out some of the water it was all dry again when we went home.

Roll on Spring! :)) Xxx

What a cold day.... We sang Happy Birthday to one of our volunteers Tom who was 16 yesterday, think he enjoyed his cheesecake and nicely decorated bike.... We saw the lovely Nell (Kerry) go off to her forever home and Tommy was reserved by a fantastic family with lots of room for him to run free to his hearts content. We had two new arrivals, Timmy and Domino who are such cuddle monsters. The dogs had a fantastic time in the sand run off lead, its so nice to be able to let them play unrestricted and run freely as all dogs should. Don't forget you can use the run for your own dogs, off lead fun, for a small charge... Plus don't forget our Open Day on Sunday 4th December, join us for a hot chocolate and home made mince pies. Yesterday was sooooooo cold but the houndies were all happy as their underbed heating and cosy fleeces keep them toasty! I brought Kizzy and Kerry back to the kennels - they are absolutely beautiful little girls who I am sure won't be in for too long.

I had a mass tidy up too as we had lots of volunteers helping and the dogs all had a good run around in the sand run too to round off the day before dinner and bed.

Preparations are under way for our Christmas Open Day - is it too early to put up the tree????? I absolutely love Christmas!

A very quiet, chilly but sunny day today, we had lots of helpers so the dogs could have both morning and afternoon walks, all snuggled up in their cosy fleece coats.
Thanks to Paul who swept and cleared what seemed like a mountain of leaves from around the kennels - it looked much tidier for a short while, until the wind blew and hundreds of leaves came falling down again!! At this time of year this is a never ending job!
We had a couple of visitors through the gates, but the quiet day enabled us to do some catching up with all those little jobs you keep putting off until you've got time.
With a cold night forecast, I left the greys tonight all tucked up in their fleece coats with the lovely underbed heating keeping them all toasty - think if it gets much colder I may well be spending my nights in one of the kennels, much warmer than my bedroom, lol!!
Thank you to everyone who came along today to walk the dogs. We have a couple of viewings booked for the weekend so fingers crossed they go well and some more of our boys & girls find themselves a forever home in time for Christmas.

A milder day...we did walks this morning and this afternoon most of the dogs had a play in the sand run. They really do enjoy having a run around off lead.

Sadly Tommy is no longer reserved. He is cat friendly and a very affectionate lad, so hopefully it won't be long before someone else will fall for him. :)

At lunchtime we had three young helpers come join us for a few hours, greyhound owners and vets in the making, thanks to volunteers for looking after them. Lots of walkers and all dogs had both morning and afternoon walks. We had some fab gifts donated to use on the tombola etc at Christmas. I'm off to the vets this evening with Foxy who is in the wars - still with his healing hock but sadly his latest injury is my fault after I accidentally trapped his tail in the car door :-((((((

We also had a lot of pet Greyhounds come along to donate , it was lovely to see them all. Jo's family all looked fab with their colour coordinated collars, Leeds and coats!

As you may have read, we have been trialling Skinners food as their breakfast meal and still feeding the Burns Pork and Potato food in the evening.

The trial has gone really well as the main things I look for is toileting habits, weight gain or loss and behaviour.

Since being on the Skinners Museli mix all the greys have gained more weight and the majority of their kennels are still lovely and clean in the mornings and there has been no significant impact on their behaviour.

We are therefore now stocking Skinners and have an introductory price of £18 for a 15kg sack of the museli mix (normally £18.99).

We also will be stocking the Skinners Duck and Rice variety - offer price £25 for a 15kg sack (normally £26.50) and this is suitable for all greys and it has added glucosamine.

For the Skinners we have a loyalty scheme where you get one sack free after 10 purchases.

If you would like any further information, please give the kennels a call.

This morning I had planned to take Jordan to the vets for her spey however, guttingly, she has come into season! Therefore Tommy drew the short straw and Kate took him to the vets. After feeding and cleaning I removed the stitches from Digger who was absolutely golden and got a pigs ear as a treat!!!

The van was loaded to go to the tip and I also loaded the car with a few donated items that we are unable to use which I donate to another local charity. Whilst Kate covered the kennels, I went to the office and spent a short while finishing off some of the costumes ready for the show which is only a few weeks away!

Foxy then was off to the vets for a dressing change to the wound on his hock and I collected Tommy following his op.

Back to the kennels for feeding, sorting paperwork, emails and then it was 'tuck up time'. The greys have their underbed heating on as well as the wall heaters as it is predicted minus temperatures tonight :-(

Off to the post office with calendars to post that have been ordered and then home - with Penny again as she is not going to her new home until the weekend.

Off to rehearsals in a moment - I think the dogs can stay at home and have a rest - they need it!!!! There are never enough hours in the day!!!!

A lovely day today - some beautiful sunshine for the dogs to enjoy their walks in, and as there were lots of volunteers, we got some grooming and bathing done too.
We have now got Skinners Muesli in stock if you'd like to give it a try. The rep was at the kennels this morning and was explaining all about the food, and the Greys certainly enjoy their breakfast - if there was a pattern on the bowls I'm sure they'd lick it off!!
Thank you for the donations of tinned food, fish and bedding received today, they are very much appreciated.

What a cold but fab day! I saw the lovely little Misty go to her new home - she had great fun in the office with her new set of coloured tennis balls whilst we were doing her rehoming paperwork! Little Dora (Susie) who only arrived yesterday showed she was not at all interested in the cats and found herself a home! She has had a name change as her new mum's name is Sue!!! The greys all had a great time in the sand run this afternoon - they love this just as much as going for a walk :-)

Tomorrow the work starts on the kennels re-wire - yay! We will keep you posted as to how the work is progressing. x

We had two new arrivals today, Snap and Susie...thanks so much to Sara for the beautiful photos of them both. They are both lovely dogs. We have another young man coming in tomorrow. :)

Had a brilliant phone call today from Jato's family. She has now officially been adopted! She is growing in confidence and is a very happy girl. Fantastic news. Xx

Ruth shut herself away in the back office today to work on the next edition of the Grapevine...think she has nearly finished it. It's a great way to keep up with what's been going on at the kennels and to hear about other people and their Greyhounds. :)

Thanks so much to everyone for their help today. Xxx

I met the two young ladies Lucy and Tina who arrived yesterday...both stunning! We have more new arrivals tomorrow, hopefully they will all be in their new homes for Christmas!

Quite a mild day; everyone enjoyed their walks in the Autumn sunshine this afternoon. :) The nights are getting chilly now and the underbed heating is on to keep the dogs nice and warm. :)

Thanks to everyone who helped out today... Xxx

Yet again a busy day. Jess came in to do two bathings, with 2 very heavy boys. We saw the reservation of Misty and two lovely new arrivals.... Tina and Lucy... We have visits from lots of people for food and nail cutting and the much needed help of a new volunteer for the day, Paul as most of our Sunday volunteers leave at 12. All dogs have a walk both morning and afternoon. X

After waiting such a long, long time our lovely Dex left the kennels this afternoon to start his new life with his very own special family! We are so very happy for him. :) Xxx

Fuzzy; now with the new name of Floyd happily went off with his new family too and pretty little Penny was reserved :)

Ruth brought gorgeous Gigi back to the kennels today after her neutering operation yesterday. She is doing very well and was a happy girl today.

We had a lot of visitors today, two and four legged...many thanks to everyone who brought in bedding, treats and car boot items.

We are very low on supplies of tinned fish....we would be very grateful if next time you are passing you could spare the odd tin of sardines or pilchards. Xx :)

The sensors are very loud...but the noise certainly makes you close the gate, very quickly!

Went to the kennels today. Thought I had committed a crime when I opened the inside gate and the alarm went off. At least everyone knows that the gate is shut. Oh and I managed to get Max a new coat that matches his winter collar and braid! Thanks Ruth, much appreciated. Jo (aka Sarah)!! X

The day didn't start to plan for me this morning however, by this afternoon I was able to take Ronny out to his new home. He is one very lucky lad and within a very short while he had settled on his bed and I am sure he will be less nervous of his new life before we know!

We saw Mel off to his foster home with Caroline and I am so pleased to say that Penny who I have got at home at the moment is doing fantastically well! If anyone is after a sweet, gentle, house trained, good with other breeds little lass - then look no further!

A nice day for a walk today unless your name is Mel...our little lad is struggling adjusting to his new surroundings at the moment. He went out for a walk this morning but stopped in the lane on the way back and wouldn't budge...Norman went and collected him in his car! Hopefully Mel will soon relax and enjoy going out...x

Well after an early start for one of our volunteers 16th, putting up balloons and banners before they got there, we set about giving the dogs there museli breakfast which went down well. We were short on our normal volunteers, so were very grateful to the lovely Liz turning up to help out. The day got busier and we saw the lovely Katie go off to her new home and had 3 lovely new arrivals, Misty, Wicky and Wisha..it was great to see Penny who is healing extremely well at Ruth's. We had a visit from Jembob, who helped Ruth and crew do the afternoon walks. It was getting dark when we left and I think both dogs and ourselves were well and truly shattered. X

Hi Everyone. We have entered Daybreaks Trust into the Aviva Community Fund to request support for the re-wiring.

Voting is now open and so we need as many friends, family and supporters as possible to vote for our project.
Even better - everyone can cast 10 votes!

The more support our project gets, the better the chances of getting funding for the rewiring. So please cast your 10 votes and share with everyone who supports us so that we can get some help from Aviva to the kennel re-wiring.

Here is the link:
https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/16-3189

(Click on the Daybreaks Diary title and go to a page where you can just click the link :))

Voting closes on 18th November.

It definitely felt like Autumn today! The dogs all had fleecy coats on last night...most of them were happy for the extra comfort except our Dex who decided he didn't want to wear his and chewed his way through it, he was wearing it like a skirt when we arrived this morning! :)

The three boys who arrived yesterday are a little stressed with their new surroundings at the moment but sure they will soon settle. They enjoyed their walks and the extra attention from the volunteers.

Ruth brought Penny into the kennels for the day. She is a real sweetheart!

Thanks to everyone for their help today and to the girls who moved all the duvets from the back of the bedding store to create more kennel space!

I would just like to say that my greys have been on Skinners for a while now but not on the muesli one (trial and maintenance as recommended by a friend). They have thrived on this, I only changed from Burns as it didn't seem to suit Stevie he started to look a bit ribby), so they all changed. People have noticed a real difference in them particularly Stevie. Pleased the kennel dogs seem to be enjoying it. Is it possible to let us know what you will be selling this at please?

A busy doggy day saw the gorgeous Archie (was Gooner) reunited with his new Mum & Dad and his adoption was made official - yay! He was so pleased to see them and happily trotted off with a lovely new coat and other goodies.
We welcomed new arrivals Blue, Fuzzy and Mel this afternoon. All lovely lads, they had nice warm baths on arrival and went to their kennels wrapped in lovely fleeces. I have asked Sara to take some proper photos of them over the next couple of days - mine don't do them any justice at all! In my defence it was chilly and we were trying to get them into their kennels as soon as possible (well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!).
The Skinners Muesli was another hit at breakfast this morning, it really does look quite delicious and obviously the Greys thinks it's a great change - all apart from Dex again, I must agree with LadyVictoria here and say he just isn't a morning boy!
Thanks to everyone who came along today to walk the dogs.

Poor little Penny is going to spend some time at home with Ruth...sadly there was an unknown incident with her kennel mate overnight, which resulted in her being bitten. Ruth took her straight to the vet this morning where she also had her neutering operation. Wishing her a speedy recovery. Sure she will get lots of Tlc.

Danny went off to his new home today; he has a new name too...Murphy :) Wishing him a very happy new life. Xxx

Lovely little Alice was reserved :)

All the dogs tried Skinners Muesli for their breakfasts this morning...everyone except Dex licked their bowls clean! :) He just isn't a morning lad!

It was early start yesterday at just after 7am so I could fit a warehouse run in as I was away at the weekend. After a visit from the 'Skinners' Rep last week I have agreed to trial some food as we have had excellent reports from greyhound owners already using it so we will see how this mornings breakfast goes down!

Jenny went off to her new home after a trip to the vets for her booster and I took Archie (was Gooner) who is stopping for a week into the run and he went MENTAL!!! It is amazing to see them fly at full speed! If you would like to use the run, please give us a call - the run is open every day and it is just a donation of £5 to use.

A busy but great day....Fergal, now called Otis Went home with his new family. :)

Handsome Danny was reserved! So good to see so many boys finding homes....we just need that special someone to come along and sweep Dex off his feet! :)

The young cat Bob found in his laundry room on Saturday has also found a home. She has been checked out by a vet and should be fine with some good food and tlc. Thanks so much to the lovely lady who has given her a home. x

We had two ladies from a local Building Society join us for the day, they enjoyed meeting all the Greyhounds and were amazed at how gentle they were. The dogs loved the extra grooming and attention. :)

We managed to fix the printer, YAY and had a visit for the kitten that was found yesterday morning by Bob, after I put on Facebook and got friends to share... Hopefully she will go to her new home tomorrow.
Dex also had he daily visit from Jembob !! Who had to be brought back from a walk early as someone was setting off fireworks.

This afternoon saw the pretty Joy go off to her new home, and the lovely Jenny reserved. These two beauties hardly had time to unpack before they headed off to their new lives!

Lots of students and volunteers meant the doggies enjoyed morning and afternoon walks today, although the weather wasn't very nice - grey, gloomy and rainy! The day was definitely cheered up by seeing the handsome Sail off to his new forever home this morning, he is such a happy boy and we wish him well.
Ruth took Ronny, Trio, Fergal and Mark off to Moreton Morrell College this afternoon to assist in an acupuncture study. Thanks to Rosie who also took ex Daybreaks resident Rigsby (was Risky) along too, apparently he managed to get some sneaky treats from the ladies!!
It was lovely to meet all this weeks new arrivals, I have totally fallen for the gorgeous Mark big time! Yes, I really have a thing about black boys, cant help it.

This week has been extra busy with Kate on holiday and we are host to two students from France for the next two weeks at the kennels.

I went to collect three new arrivals direct from the vets in Tamworth this afternoon - the two little ladies are coming home with me and Danny who has recovered well is now settled in his kennel.

Mark and Fergal who arrived on Monday have settled well and their personalities are coming through :-)

I saw Coco (aka Maddy) off to her new home today too.

We have had two offers of donated bedding so I am appealing for anyone who might be able to collect it on my behalf - one lot is from Monkspath and one is by the Maypole. If you think you could help, please give me a call at the kennels.

I am so grateful to all the volunteers who help out at the kennels - I couldn't do it without you xxxx

What a busy day! The beautiful Millie found her forever home, she was such a good girl with all her new doggy companions, and what a lovely homing photo. Wishing her and her new family all the very best for the future.

We had so many students today, so all walks were done in the lovely Autumn sunshine and we did health checks, and cleaning too.

Dolly spent the day surrounded by Greys of all shapes and sizes and Sara's 2 non Greys - and what a little star she was with them all. She loves her cuddles and to be a part of what's going on around her. Keeping fingers crossed that she gets her forever sofa very soon as she is such a sweetie.

Poor Sail is wearing a bandage on his tail for the same reason. Rumble was such a very happy boy and a great ambassador for Greyhounds. At the end of the programme he had found a new home. :)

After cleaning out, I took Gooner to the vets for his booster - he was such a good boy and met a German Shepherd who he loved. Once back at the kennels, Gooner had visitors and found himself reserved - YAY! Who could resist him anyway!

I nabbed Helen one of our volunteers to assist me with one of our resident chickens who had a problem but we sorted her and Helen went off with a freshly laid egg in appreciation! It isn't just the greys who need our help!

I was back to the vets this afternoon with Velma to get her flea treatment as she is just a little dot at 24.7kg and I took a urine sample from Dolly who has been wetting the bed. Thank you to Jill and Denise for getting the sample - we have been trying desperately but she always wees when our back is turned!!!!!!!!!

I spent the rest of the day setting up an additional computer work station so I can attack the Grapevine and other paperwork during the day without hogging the office but this was interrupted by the electrics tripping numerous times - agggghhhh I could cry!

Please help prevent me and the other volunteers from totally losing the plot and help us raise the money we need to have the kennels re-wired....... you can log on to the fundraising page or text a donation - every penny really does make a difference. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wiringhelp or text WIRE78 £5 (if you would like to donate £5 or any other amount - even £1 helps) to 70070.

I am so grateful to everyone who has donated so far - Thank you so much xxxx

A much warmer day, we were able to get our washing dry! :)

Ruth brought Nellie back to the kennels this afternoon, although a little tender she is recovering well from her recent operation. A lovely girl, Not surprised she has been reserved already!

Poor Dex was stung by a bee whilst out on his morning walk, luckily Ruth found the stinger and removed it. :( He was a brave boy.

Velma made us smile this afternoon...she took a real shine to Sail who was in the run next to her when they were having their dinner. She kept on "talking" to him! He was quite aloof to begin with but eventually came over and touched noses. She was very happy!

Thanks very much to Gladys and Mabel's Dad who brought bedding and some toys in for the dogs. Mo was very impressed with his black rat! :))

Thank you to everyone for their help today. Xxx

A very autumnal day today but we managed to walk the dogs morning and afternoon without getting too wet. :)

A busy day at the vets; Ruth took sweet new girl Nellie for her neutering operation this morning and Maddie for her vaccination booster this afternoon.

I met the latest new arrivals today....Nellie, Sail and Mo...all of them gorgeous and ready for their forever homes. :)

As we had a lot students today we were able to catch up on some overdue tasks...which included raking the sand run!

A big thank you to Pet Search who donated lots tins of food to us today. Wonderful! Thank you also to everyone who brought in bedding. We are so grateful for all the tremendous support we receive. Xxx

Well what a fab day again today. Jato / Ronny and Velma went on the Stratford Walk and guess what Velma only went and got herself reserved on returning to the kennels. We had three lovely new arrivals, Nellie, Sail and Mo and Nellie also only went and bagged herself a new home within 1 hour. Yay. Its been busy with nail cutting and visitors for food. Thanks to everyone that has helped today. x

We had several visitors interested in meeting the Greyhounds today, fingers crossed they will think about offering one of them a home... :)

It was great to see ex Daybreaks resident little Georgie and her family this morning. She looked so well and had a lovely play in the sand run.

Poppy also came in to see us, she loves the sand run too! We finally got a homing photo!...and best news of all, results from Poppy's recent blood tests came back normal! So very happy for her. :) xxx

Norman took Griffy out for the day to his first Roadshow in Stratford. Norman said he was brilliant and enjoyed all the attention. :)

Thanks to Jembob for taking Dex out for the day, he throughly enjoyed having a break from the kennels.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped out today...it is beginning to feel more like Autumn, good excuse to buy a new winter wardrobe for your Greyhound! Must ask Daisydog what the 'in' colour is for this year! :) Xxx

With our recent homings, and our new intake not due until the weekend, we nearly had more volunteers/students than dogs today!!!
The heavens opened this morning and we had a torrential downpour delaying morning walks. As it eased off we bundled everyone, both human and doggy, into raincoats - only for the rain to stop and the sun to come out, typical!
The handsome Floyd went off for his neutering operation first thing, and was back in kennels by 2.00pm bright as a button, if a little sore bless him.
It was a very quiet day, meaning we could get health checks and some tidying and cleaning done.
Newcomers Velma and Dolly enjoyed all the fuss and attention they received from our regular Friday disabled lady visitor who comes to groom the dogs - they are both such lovely girls with beautiful soft coats.
Thank you to everyone who came along today to help out. Angie x

We had four extra helpers this morning on a charity day from their company Mondelez...the dogs loved having the extra attention. Little Dolly was especially taken with one of the ladies :)

Wonderful to see Smithy go home this afternoon. He jumped into the car very happily to start his new life with his family, including Eunice his very pretty Greyhound sister. :)

Many thanks to Sara for the new photos of some of the dogs...please take a look at Floyds latest snapshot, so very handsome and Dolly....just look at those ears! x

We had a postcard from Daybreaks former resident Paddy today, he says he is having a wonderful time on his holidays! Thanks Paddy. Xxx

I have set up a a text giving code for easy donating if you would like to help towards our kennel improvements - namely the re-wiring which we are desperate for, then the kitchen roof which leaks and a new treatment room floor. If you would like to support our mission, please text WIRE78 £5 (if you would like to donate £5 or any other amount - even £1 helps) to 70070. Floyd and Velma arrived today....both gorgeous! Thanks to Jess for bathing them under difficult circumstances....the floor of the treatment room collapsed! Sadly the wood has gone rotten. Thanks so much to Andy who carried out a quick repair. :)

Brilliant to see Westy reserved today, such a sweet little girl. Xx

After a very warm day the storm clouds gathered and it got darker and darker...we had a very noisy thunder storm. A huge clap of thunder made us all jump and some of the dogs were quite frightened, inculding Ronny; however kennel mate Jato who is usually a nervous little girl didn't seem concerned at all. :) Sara, Jess and I sought shelter in the kitchen only to find the roof leaking in several places! Thankfully the kennels were all nice and dry. :))

A busy day with several new students starting their work experience...at one point I think we had as many people as kennel dogs! :) We had plenty of walkers and it was good to get some extra jobs done :)

It didn't take long for the students to fall for the charms of our lovely Greyhounds and want to take one home! :)

We also had a brief visit from Ruth's chickens...most of the dogs were very good when they came out for their dinner and saw the chickens in the small run. Poor Dex and Jato were frightened of them!

The three new arrivals from yesterday, Westy, Dolly and Maddie are all gorgeous! We have another new boy and girl arriving tomorrow. :)

What a fab day with Diva now called Gracie going out to her forever home and 3 new arrivals (all girls) Westy, Maddie and Dolly, thanks to Bob for collecting them. Smithy saw his new mom again today and is being collected on Thursday. Thanks to Alison for feeding me today as I forgot my lunch. We had lots of people who came to view our current residents, so hopefully we find forever homes very shortly. All dogs went on morning walks and had fun in the run on the afternoon. Thanks to everyone who helped out today and to all the visitors, esp those that brought pilchards, toys and blankets for the dogs. xx

A rather wet day but a brilliant day...Diva has been reserved and so has Smithy! So happy for them both :) Xxx

As it was pouring with rain this morning we brought the dogs out into the small runs for a break from their kennels while we were waiting for the rain to subside so we could go out for walks....Jayne and I showed Smithy how to play with a ball. He was very unsure at first especially if it bounced too high...but after a few minutes he was picking it up and was happy for you to take it from him and throw it again. He is such a super lad. x

The rain did stop eventually and we were able to go out for walks morning and afternoon. :)

Thanks to everyone who helped out and got wet today!

First an apology if you tried to call the kennels this morning & couldn't get through. We kept losing the electric and so the phone wouldn't work, this just highlights how desperate we are to get the rewiring project underway.

This morning saw the handsome Turbo, now Bo, and pretty little Gertie, now Charity, go off to their new forever homes. It was such a shame that it was the sad loss of a Greyhound (Jay and Hesky) that gave both these beauties their chance - we wish them and their new families well. We have some viewings booked for tomorrow so fingers crossed that more of our boys and girls may soon be leaving us.
Our delivery of food blocked the driveway this morning, many thanks to Caddy's Dad, who helped me move the bags whilst Caddy was enjoying his bath and pamper session with Jess.
The sun shone on and off for most of the day, then just as everyone was out on the afternoon walk the heavens opened! Typical, but fortunately nobody got too wet.
Thanks to everyone who helped out today, we had a busy but enjoyable day. Angie xx

We had more sad news today too....with the loss of past resident Sanji and Hesky, Vince and Rachel's lad. x

I still have Pepper and Tess at home with me following their dentals - originally this was because they were post op and I wanted to keep an eye on them but now it is because they have been such perfect house guests, they just keep ending up on the van and back home with me each night! They are off to their new home together on Thursday.

Due to storage issues, unfortunately we are putting a hold on donations of car boot items/clothing/books etc. I am extremely grateful to everyone who has donated - this money goes towards the ongoing costs of our foster dogs so THANK YOU! I am really grateful. Ruth xxx

We managed to go on one walk before the rain arrived this morning...thanks to everyone who got rather wet on the next walk!

As it was still raining this afternoon most of the dogs had some fun in the sand run. :)

Pepper and Tess spent the day at the kennels. Pepper had her dental yesterday. After having some teeth extracted her tongue now seems to have a mind of its own and keeps slipping out of the side of her mouth! Poor little lass. Ruth has taken them both home for some extra tlc before they go to their new home. x

Ronnie and Reggie came to visit us today and use the run, they both looked super and very happy! It's always great when ex-Daybreaks residents come to visit. x

Lisa took Nicola to her new home, it was great to receive a call to say Nicola would not need any dinner at the kennels as she would be dining with her new family! Wishing her a very happy life!

Hmmmmm - I am going to be in trouble with Kate tomorrow when she is back in as I have been moving things around again in the office thanks to a donation of a shelving unit!

It has been a quiet day on the volunteer front but has been a busy day yet again - Tyke is doing brilliantly following her dental yesterday and has become very affectionate. It just shows how much their teeth can affect them.

I took the Trust van in for it's MOT and other than some brackets on the exhaust - she sailed through!

It was fabulous to see Rosie go out to her new home and we also saw Peg go out on trial for a week and we are keeping everything crossed.

Sadly Pepper and Tess came back to the kennels today after years in a home but I hope they find a home as soon as possible. We have left them in the large kitchen pen and kennel and now I am home, I have checked on them on the cameras and they appear very settled.

Yesterday was a very busy day with paperwork - it is so difficult to keep on top of, but I am so very grateful to everyone who has recently sent in a donation - you can be assured it will be used wisely to help all the dogs in our care.

Steve continued to work on the runs and fixed the bench that had been decimated the day before! Yay!

Today I took Tyke one of our resident cats in for her dental which was flagged up last week when she had her booster. Sadly she is now a gummy bear but I am sure she will feel much better soon - she is extremely happy to be back 'home'. Whilst she was at the vets she was supervised by Jess, one of our volunteers, who is doing her work experience at Fivelands so she had a familiar friendly face to help her during her stay today!

This afternoon brought us a stray caught by our walkers - a very sweet Jack Russell type of dog which was not microchipped so Kate has taken it to the Dogs Home where hopefully his owner will come forward.

The Trust van is going in for its MOT tomorrow and attention to the exhaust is definitely required as it started making awful noises earlier :-( Never a dull moment here!

Well we have had a quiet but very productive day here at the kennels. The lovely ladies from the Canine Massage have been in all day giving the kennels dogs lots of pampering (with an added Border Collie x thrown into the mix).
Claire / Ronnie and Jato all went off to the Stratford Walk with Norman and John and seemed to have a fab time.

It was wonderful to see Sue and Rosie both reserved today :) Rosie loved all the attention and showed off how clever she was with her lovely "sit" and "down" techniques. :)

Many thanks to Jeremy who took Diva on her outing to the park. I did notice the "secret" treats he sneaked to Diva and to his favourite boy Dex! It was Dex rattling the bag and setting the other dogs off barking that gave him away! :)))

Today has been wet, wet & wet! What a contrast to the lovely sunshine we've had over the past few weeks. We didn't have any volunteers first thing this morning, so the Greys couldn't go out for a walk - mind you I think they were extremely grateful for this as the rain just bucketed down all morning! We did get lots of health checks done instead though.
Nicola, our usual Friday visitor, came at lunchtime to do some grooming. Rosie absolutely loved being out with her, having plenty of fusses and cuddles as well as a lovely brush, and was very reluctant to leave and return to her kennel!
It was a bit drier in the afternoon and, as we had some volunteers then, the dogs did get a short walk - although everyone was dodging the showers!
Sue came back this afternoon, her prospective owners were so upset at having to bring her back, especially as she had been such a good girl and was settling really well, but things have to be right for everyone concerned. She has a glowing report and I'm sure she wont be waiting too long for another chance.
We have some viewings booked again for tomorrow, so lets hope for some better weather and that one, or more, of our boys & girls will find themselves a lovely new home.
Thanks to those who braved the weather and helped out today.

Ruth took Turbo off to the vets this morning for his neutering operation. He really doesn't live up to his name, "Turbo" gives the impression of a fast, busy, energetic boy...but he is very quiet, calm and loves cuddles :) Oh, he is also very handsome too! Ruth picked him up later this afternoon and took pretty Claire for her vaccination at the same time.

Claire was very shy when she first arrived at the kennels but she is so much more relaxed now. Alan, Paddys Dad popped in today and she was very happy to receive lots of fuss from him. :)

We had a lot of volunteers today :) They all enjoyed walking the dogs along the lane in the warm sunshine.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow; it's great having the summer house in the run...somewhere for the humans to shelter while their dogs have a run around...however I am sure some of the dogs, especially the Greyhounds would be in the summer house with them too!

We had a quiet day today visitor wise with just a couple of pamper sessions. It was very warm so the doggies lunchtime treat was frozen yoghurt - most of them really enjoy licking the lovely ice cold contents, then squashing the cardboard pots down so the chunk of yogurt pops out and they can happily crunch away on it! Today's flavour was cranberry and I must say it did look very appetizing.

Steve came to finish off the floor in the big run this afternoon, I think he would have welcomed some of the frozen doggy yoghurt as it was more a day for lying on the beach than laying cement!
Sara has taken some more lovely new photos of our residents which really show them at their best. We have several viewings tomorrow so fingers crossed that some more of our boys & girls will find their forever homes this weekend.
As I did my final check round before I left this evening, the majority of the residents were upside down on their beds, legs in the air, splayed open to let the cool air circulate!!! I just love to see them in this position.
Thanks to everyone who came along to help out today, it was a warm one indeed. Angie x

A very busy day today....with lots of visitors. :)

Fudge went for his final check up with the vet this afternoon after his recent neutering operation. He has had his stitches removed and has been given the all clear; no more medication and goodbye to the lampshade! :) He was a very good boy at the vets although he did find the fluffy tail of a small dog being carried by his owner very interesting. :)

Ruth had the less glamorous job of going to the tip!

The floor in the large run is looking good...no doggy foot prints in the concrete, but a bird took a liking to it and has signed his name!

Good to have Jess and Amy back with us after their holidays...thank you both for the goodies, very much appreciated! :)

It was so good to see gorgeous little Lola go home with her new family today. She was very happy to trot off down the drive with them to start her new life. :)

Brilliant to see Billy reserved again and sweet little Sue too!..This just leaves cute Gertie as the only dog in the kitchen kennel/run who is still looking for her forever home.....maybe tomorrow, fingers crossed!

Ruth was given some free pots of doggy Frozen yoghurts when she went to the warehouse this morning. The dogs loved them! Just what they needed on a hot sunny day.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped out on a very busy day today. :)

It was a quiet day customer wise today, but busy for us as we have a full house at the moment!
Sue went off for the day with Norman to Pets at Home in Solihull. She came back with a glowing report of what a good girl she had been, and how well she could sell raffle tickets!! She had lots of interest shown in her so fingers crossed. Bless her she was so tired on her return that she lay down on her bed and dozed off - we had to wake her to have her dinner! When I left this evening she was spark out again, no doubt dreaming about her big adventure today.
Jack headed off on a big adventure of his own this afternoon, a trip to Cornwall to his new forever home - good luck matey.
Very sadly Billy was unreserved today due to an unexpected change in his family's circumstances. I'm sure that this handsome, loving boy won't be waiting too long for another red sign though.
Jato & Ronny are the winners of my clean kennel award today - honestly if I didn't know better I'd have said they spent the night somewhere else!! A huge contrast to the lovely Olly who seems to delight in rearranging every piece of bedding he has, pulling it down onto the floor and somehow managing to get it all twisted and twirled together! I think he just enjoys watching us unravelling it all in the mornings!
Thankyou to everyone who helped out today, we had some lovely sunshine this afternoon and the Greys enjoyed their walks down the lane. Angie x

A very busy day today...we had a visit from the Canine Massage Therapy group. Most of the Greyhounds took part and seemed to enjoy the extra attention, especially Dex who bounced out of his kennel for each session. Apparently Ronny was a real star...everyone fell in love with him! :)

Mac went off th the vets with Ruth this morning for his neutering operation. He returned late this afternoon and although rather sleepy managed to eat his dinner...hopefully he will feel better tomorrow. x

Jack and Fudge discussed the pitfalls of having to wear a cone when they met in adjacent runs for a break from their kennels. They unfortunately are unable to go for a walk at the moment after their respective recent operations. It made us all smile to see them trying to have a chat cone to cone! :)

Nicolas paw is so much better and she is able to go out for short walks. She is such a very happy girl.

Thanks to everyone who came in today and helped look after our super dogs; they are all so special...can't wait for them all to find their own special home! :)

It was vet day yesterday! Early start off to Fivelands in Moseley with Jack as he had a warty lump on his shoulder which had started to look quite red and weepy so he had it removed, along with another that had appeared on his head since he had arrived. He has a post op check on Friday before he heads off to Cornwall to his new home!

It was then off to Fivelands in Yardley for a post op check with Fudge following his castrate last week and Jato following her dental. Jato's gums have healed really well and you would hardly know she had had a dental as just the incisors (front small teeth) and a few molars (back teeth) have disappeared. Every grey that is rehomed from Perry Barr RGT has a dental so it is quite routine for them to have a few gaps and greyhounds are notoriously known for losing teeth throughout their lives even with great care.

It was then back to Moseley to fetch Jack who arrived back at the kennels with a rather fetching lampshade - guess he was jealous of Fudge!

My sister is over from Japan visiting me so I am off for a few days intermittently over the next couple of weeks - so the kennels will be running as usual in the safe hands of Kate, Angie, Denise, Lisa and Sara. I have been trying to rope little Sis into helping me at the kennels but it is not working! :-(

It was a productive day yesterday in the nail clipping and corn removal department!!!!!! With many of our usual volunteers either helping at Sheldon Country Festival or away on holiday, we were still busy - I am grateful to everyone who gave up their time to help.

I spent a lot of time with Diva yesterday - she is a beautiful girl but seems quite fed up in her kennel so, as well as her walks, she went in the sand run a few times and had great fun playing with the toys. Today I have moved her into the kitchen run so she has some playmates and she is much more settled.

I still have Rosie coming home with me and I am desperate to find her a home. She is very very affectionate and although can be initially grumpy with others, she soon calms down but does love individual fuss and attention.

If you think you could offer her a home, please give me a call!

Today I am on a mission to tidy and re-arrange things - nothing like a good blitz once in a while!!!

Another brilliant day!...

Three of our residents have been reserved, Mimi and Mac are going to their new home together! :) How exciting!

Lovely Lola was reserved too! She is such a cute girl, so happy for her!

Ruth brought Rosie in and she spent the day in the kitchen with Charlie, Louis, Joseph, Coilean, Dotty, Alfie and Skip! She is such an affectionate girl and asked for cuddles from everyone. :)

Ruth and Tina went to the wearhouse this morning and brought lots of great new toys...would make great Birthday presents. :))

Fudge is being such a good boy...he didn't have to wear his cone during the day. When we left tonight he was quite comfy wearing his cone in his usual position lying on his back with legs in the air!

A visitor commented on how clean the kennels were and how comfortable and happy the dogs looked! I am sure if our Greyhounds could talk they would say the same...thank you so much to everyone who helped out today. Xxx

What a busy, busy day we had today - a visit from the Pet Blood Bank, viewings and visitors donating bedding kept us all occupied today. The Pet Blood Bank were desperate for donations, so current residents Billy, Dex, Diva, Olly and Sue were all able to do their bit and donate their blood. It was so lovely to see them lying quietly on the table and know that their blood will go towards helping save the lives of other dogs out in the community.
As a result of the many viewings, Billy and Jack have both been reserved - yay!
Big thanks for the donations of clothing, some of which has now found its way into the wardrobe for our upcoming fundraising show "A Night at the Movies" as costume items! We are very grateful for every item donated to help our residents.
We managed to get afternoon walks done in the dry, a big thank you to everyone that came to help out this afternoon. Angie

Billy now has two girlfriends!..Despite having Olly for company Sue has been rather stressed in her kennel so we have put her in the kitchen run/kennel with Billy and Mimi. We hope the extra space and company will help her to settle.

Nicola's paw is looking so much better and she is not limping as she was earlier in the week. She still has a few more days of antibiotics, hopefully it won't be long before she can go for walks again. :)

We almost managed to get all of the morning walks done before the rain came...it was just the last walk that was very wet! Thanks to everyone who braved the elements and ended up getting soaked....the dogs didn't seem to mind too much and enjoyed the extra attention of being wrapped in a towel when they came back. :)

The Pet Blood Bank are visiting the kennels tomorrow. They are very low in supplies of blood, so have asked if any of our Greyhounds can help out. They will be visiting again on Tuesday 9th August. This session will be for Trust dogs and pet dogs. If you are interested in your Greyhound donating for this very worthy cause please call the Pet Blood Bank on 01509 232 222 they will be happy to answer any questions you may have. :)

Yesterday I went to fetch Rosie who is currently on foster and brought her back home with me. She has settled really well and being such a good girl. I left her at home today whilst I went to the kennels to fetch Fudge who was admitted to Fivelands for his castrate. Fudge had undescended testicles so as he has undergone a bigger op he is going to stop at our house so I can keep an eye on him tonight. He is a very handsome fella and didn't react to the other dogs he met at the vets - I hope he finds a home soon.

Bob collected gorgeous little Sue for us, what an absolute sweetheart she is. We have paired her up with the equally gorgeous Olly.

Nicola is still limping but she seems a little better today. She was very happy to meet any visitors who came her way with a very waggy tail! :)

Thanks so much to everyone who helped out today. :) x

We have a full house at the kennels...if you are looking for a new member to add to your family please come and meet our fabulous Greyhounds. They all have their own special personalities and are all fantastic!

A busy day...but cooler! :)

New lad Mac is very handsome! He is a little nervous it the moment but sure he will soon settle.

Nicola had a visit to the vet this afternoon. She has a nail bed infection so has antibiotics to help clear it up. Poor lass. She was a very good girl in the waiting room. There was a rather unhappy Staffie who obviously didn't like being at the vets and was growling at her...she didn't take any notice at all. :) She also travelled really well in the car and was no trouble. She is a happy little girl. x

Thank you to the people who dropped in with car boot items and bedding, we are always grateful.

Thank you to everyone who came in and helped today. x

Hi stevie, sarah, willow&Max'smum - sorry we don't stock the cool coats but the ones we use at the kennels are from Easidri and we find the Medium size fits the greys the best.
Here is a link to one on Amazon - as you can see they are expensive which is why we can't afford to keep them in stock but if you are going to order on line through somewhere like Amazon, please remember to do this through Easyfundraising as a donation will be made because of your purchase. Thanks so much. Ruth x

Well it was another hot day today, and all residents went on their walks down the shady lane adorned in their cool coats! Mimi and Gertie have settled into the kennels well and are lovely girls.
We cat tested all the recent new arrivals this afternoon, but unfortunately they are all not cat friendly. Ah well, the right home will be out there for them all.
Work has continued on the floors of the runs, poor Steve was looking very hot and bothered by the end of the afternoon. Not the best weather for cutting and laying slabs!
Thanks to all who helped out today, hope everyone manages to keep cool as our heatwave continues. x

Mimi who has been stopping with me since her spey on Wednesday is certainly a lot brighter and the more laid back of the pair. She sleeps well, is good with our greys and not bothered by our ducks and chickens. Even the fox and badger who visit in our garden at night haven't phased her.
As for Miss Cheeky Gertie - she has personality and her feet are up on the counters at every opportunity but she is already learning. She is a good girl, sleeps well in the night and again not bothered by home life here.
Both girls are back to the kennels today and hopefully they will find a home very soon x

A much fresher day! :)

It was brilliant to see Olly reserved today, such a sweet lad. It was so good to see Reggie again, he looked great, a very happy boy, who will soon be getting a new brother! :)

Fudge had an appointment with the vet this afternoon; a check up for his swollen paw. It is looking much better but he has been given antibiotics for another week. He was such a good lad both in the car and at the vets. x

Ryan, who is at the kennels this week for work experience tried a bit of DIY this afternoon...Ruth got him painting the walls in the newly refurbished toilet. He went home with a nice white streak in his hair!

Lots of love tonight to little Jato, she is off to the vets tomorrow for her dental. Xxx

Yesterday was such a busy day! We had a trip to the tip, a skip delivered, fetched a donated fridge and microwave from Sutton, bought paint and brushes and a new hose which are all going to be used today and collected the new arrivals from the vets in Tamworth where they had been dropped by their trainer.

The girls; Mimi and Gertie were both speyed and are absolutely adorable. On arrival at the kennels they had a very gentle bath down and then popped back on the van and I took them home. Sadly Gertie was sick many times but they have both had a very settled night and have both pottered about in the garden and toileted.
I am so pleased the temperatures have dropped a little which means our Greys will be a little happier!

Wow! It was so hot today! We managed to take the dogs on their morning walks before it got too hot. Old Damson Lane is very shady this time of year and they all wore wet coats. :)

Our two new arrivals Jack and Olly are both gorgeous! I don't think they minded having a bath, helped to cool them down.

This afternoon we tried to keep the kennel blocks as cool as possible with fans and used wet towels to hopefully help the dogs feel more comfortable.

Thanks to everyone who helped out today, we sold a lot of cans of pop!

Lola went off to the vets for her neutering operation. She is staying with Ruth tonight for some extra tlc.

It was a very quiet day today, which meant we could get lots of weeding, sweeping and tidying done in readiness for our birthday party on Sunday. Ruth and Jill were busy ferrying supplies from the Swan offices, and putting up gazebos and bunting - its all looking great and I am really looking forward to Sunday.
We had some lovely warm sunshine and the dogs enjoyed their walks. There was much snoozing on the cool kennel floors after them too!
Jess and I spotted the beautiful Nicola doing such a cute thing. It was Bonio biscuits for lunchtime treats today, and when she had taken hers, she jumped up onto her bed, scraped the corner of the bedding up and dropped the biscuit into the space. She then proceeded to push the bedding back over the biscuit with her nose, making sure it was all hidden from view - bless her. I wonder if she will be enjoying a midnight feast later! ????

It was great to see little Titch go off to her new home today. Do hope all goes well. She is a super girl. :)

The Failed Foster Parents Club continues to claim more new members...Jenny is now officially adopted by Harley and his family, wonderful news!

Poor Glen managed to lose a nail when he was racing around the sand run this morning. It bled very heavily, but you know Glen wouldn't stay still and managed to "decorate" his kennel and everywhere else with red paw prints. :( Fortunately Ruth was on hand to dress it while Janye and I pinned him down! Hopefully it will look better tomorrow. Xx

Sadly we were not able to do any walks today as we didn't have quite enough people but Sara and Jayne managed to let all the dogs have a turn in the sand run which they loved. Thankfully they all managed to hang on to their nails!!

It's been a busy day today - we had a visit from Eoin, Peg and gummy Shaun and it is fantastic to see Eoin especially looking so well with fur back on his, what was very bald bottom!

I started attacking the weeds around the edge of the run but had help and it is now all cleared - yay!

We saw Snowy and Missy go off to their new home and the paperwork has been completed for Foxy (now Reggie) and Camas (now Ronnie) - they are off to their new homes on 10th July - the day of our Daybreaks 10th Birthday celebrations.

We had a visit from Bob from the Isle of Mann (owner of Brae who was adopted in 2014) who spent the whole afternoon walking every single dog!

Ravi had half an hour of one on one TLC being stroked in his kennel by Duke of Edinburgh volunteer Lucy and then this afternoon he learnt how to give his paw to Sara P in return for cheese! One clever boy who is getting used to having his feet touched gradually.

Along with visits from Tommy, Poppy and Cally - it has been a lovely day x

A very wet morning and alas we had a flood in the kennels again :( We all had a go at bailing out the water and thankfully soon got it under control. Foxy and Camas were not too impressed at having to paddle through the water to have breakfast!

We had a lot of help today, two school students on a work experience week and several of our current work placements. As it was so wet this morning all the dogs had a play in the sand run which they loved! The weather improved this afternoon so they were able to enjoy taking the dogs for a walk.

Sara and Jasmine took Al into the run for a photoshoot this afternoon; you can see the results on Al's page on the website. He is a super lad.

We have another new arrival coming in tomorrow, a little girl whose racing name is On Her Toes. We are looking forward to meeting her.

Firstly let us say Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there (Human and Four legged).
A fantastic 60 dogs attended the Great British Greyhound Walk in Stratford Upon, thansk to Norman for organising.
It was quite an quiet day at the kennels, with only a visit from Sassy, who was as lovely as ever. The most fabulous news that handsome twins Foxy and Camas were reserved and will be going home together. We had two very appealing new arrivals, the BFG (Big Friendly Giant at a whopping 38kg) Snowy and the cute Diva with her Roman Nose. We had plenty of volunteers to walk the hounds in the lovely sun shine that made an appearance. Wishing the Daybreaks London to Brighton Riders good luck on their final 16 miles left to do (as of 4pm today). xx

A great day for two of our residents...Mister has at last found his forever home! Wonderful to see him happily trot off with his lovely new family.

Susie was reserved by Dutchess and her family. What a super little girl Dutchess is...she did listen to her Mum, she was very nice to Susie, they enjoyed playing in the sand run together. :)

Dex decided to rearrange his bed last night and we were greeted with a "snowy" floor this morning!

Glynis was very lonely after her kennel mate Mister went home...hope it won't be long before she too finds her rorever home.x

Thanks to everyone who helped at the kennels today. It was so nice for both Greyhounds and volunteers to be able to go out for a walk with out getting soaked!

On behalf of the current residents at the kennels we wish everyone involved in the London to Brighton Bike Ride tomorrow a safe and successful day. :) Xxx

What a contrast - we had a lovely dry day and the sun shone so much this afternoon that I had to take my sweatshirt off I got that warm!! Honestly - the vagaries of the British weather. The doggies were happy to be able to walk in the warm and dry for a change too.
It was a very quiet day at the kennels today, so I got the opportunity to do some of the healthy checks. Mister was an absolute star - I stood him on the scales to weigh him, turned round to record his weight in his notes, and then turned back to find him still standing on the scales, looking at me and waiting so patiently. He was also a star having his teeth brushed, thank you Mister for being such a good boy. In huge contrast the dynamic duo Foxy & Camas were not so cooperative!!!! Much too much to look at and play with for them to stand still to be checked - Foxy even decided it was much quicker for him to jump up and help himself to the treats off the cupboard rather than wait to be offered! These 2 boys keep us all entertained with their antics, although I have a suspicion that Foxy is the ringleader!!
We have some viewings booked over the weekend so lets keep our fingers crossed that some of our residents will soon be on their way to new, forever homes. xxx

A mainly dry day today! :). The sun even made an appearance for a brief few minutes! With Mabel going off to her new home yesterday Glen has been able to move "home" and is now in a kennel away from the drain...!

Poor Gemma (Titch) has wagged her tail so much she has split it. :( What she really needs is a home with room for her and her happy tail!

Gorgeous little Amy went off to her new home this afternoon and has a great new name...Rainbow! x

Many thanks to the visitors who popped in with donations of bedding and items for raffle prizes. They are all very much appreciated.

What a day! Started off well...morning walks taken in the warm sunshine but the afternoon found us in a monsoon! The drains couldn't cope with the extra rainfall and we were soon bailing water out of the kennel blocks. Fortunately only poor Glen's kennel was waterlogged, he must have thought he was back living on his previous owners boat! He didn't seem to mind, just lay on his bed watching Sara P and I filling buckets with water and getting very wet :) As I write this it is pouring with rain again, I am hoping the drains are coping ok. :( Such a good thing the beds are all raised from the floor.

Thankfully most of the dogs were OK with the thunder and lightning. Far more interested in waiting for their dinners to arrive!

Brightest moment of the day was the arrival of Missy. What a super girl she is! So very happy. Kissed every Greyhound she met male or female, not just once but several times! Thanks to Jess and Sarah for giving her a nice bath.

Let's hope for a drier day tomorrow.

The weather was kind to us today...not too much rain. We were able to do morning and afternoon walks.

Our two lads Foxy and Camas helped take the washing down, but as usual didn't offer to fold it up and put it away! :)

We said goodbye to David today, one of our students. He has now completed his course. He has been a great help over the past year, we hope he has enjoyed working with the Greyhounds and we wish him well for the future.

Missy, the little girl who has been waiting a while to come into the kennels should be arriving tomorrow...we are looking forward to meeting her. :) Xxx

What a lovely but very wet day today. We had the lovely ladies in from Canine Massage in and all the dogs had a lovely time with them including Ruths Foxy, Joseph and Cailin. We had two new lovely volunteers from France and Sweden come and help out, plus the lovely Cathy (was Catherine) and Daisy (Was Bingo) both homed, plus the handsome Dex arrived. Little Susie also had a viewing and is now coming out of her shell. Mister went out to Hatton Country World and won a further 2 rosettes. Yay. x

Another busy day...bathings, corns and nails for Ruth to deal with...Lots of great donated food to collect :) as well as the usual breakfasts, kennel cleaning walks and dinners for the lovely Daybreaks residents!

Several ex-residents came to visit us too, including Luke, Tessa, Minty, Reggie (Flutter) and Cadbury...they all looked very happy and healthy. :)

Glen and Ravi went out for the day with Norman, Mary and John to help with the Warwick Road show and Street collection. They were both brilliant ambassadors showing people what great dogs Greyhounds are! Let's hope it won't be long before they are both settled in new homes. Xxx

Well, what a busy day that turned out to be! So happy for the lovely Tam, who was reserved today after behaving beautifully on his walk with his new Dad. And the lovely Mabel reserved too - she is such a beautiful little girl.
The lovely duo Camas & Foxy were keeping us all entertained again - Foxy deciding it was great fun to pull the washing down from over the bars and run with it onto his bed!! I also caught the little tinker trying to open the kennel door again! I must admit that he is very clever to have watched how the latch works and then try to lift it up himself. Both these boys are such bundles of fun and will lick you clean when you go in to see them!
It was a very warm day again, and big thanks to all who came to help out.
I understand that Ruth & her Foxy were a big hit on the radio this morning - well done to Foxy for doing his bit so well.x

I was due in today with just a vet visit planned for this afternoon..... however I'm getting ready to set off for the Free Radio studios in Birmingham..... tune in between 8 and 9 if you can! :-) We are excited!

Several Greyhounds visited the kennels for a pamper session including Birthday girl Maisie who went out looking elegant and smelling great! We are having great fun with our weekly rehearsals for our show in November however after yesterday evening's session, I had a call from Dandy's new owners to say he was struggling to settle and becoming frantic.... I drove out with a crate and met half way at Frankley Services and later that evening I had the news I was waiting for - he had settled - yay!

Two gorgeous new arrivals came in today - Little Miss Amy and Titch arrived today. Thanks to Jess and Sarah for bathing and to Lee, Mark and Wayne for grooming and Diane and Heather for helping walk - we have a great team of volunteers :-)

Roger came to visit with his owners and had fun in the sand run - it was so lovely to see him again x Between Kate and I, we attacked the paperwork but alas - the back bedding store will have to be on the agenda tomorrow for tidying! (Blerghhhh!!!)

Thank you so much for the very generous donations coming through the post from the recent Grapevine mailing - we are all so very grateful to you for your support - it helps us to continue helping the Greys - THANK YOU xxxxxxxxxxx

Today started off quiet, well until 12 when the sun came out, then it was mad. Tom and John took the lovely Tam and Catherine to the Kingsbury Walk this morning and on there return the lovely Catherine was reserved by a fab couple who travelled all the way from Derby, The lovely Kin popped in to use the run (giving me huge kisses) We have two very loving new greys called Glynis and Mabel arrive from the track. We heard that Lenny (Glen's) owner was no longer able to keep him due to ill health, so this fab boy is now looking for that extra special new home. The lovely Dennis went out to hopefully his new home and we had many people come in for food. The dogs are finally settled now and we are just about to leave for the day, well done to everyone who helps out at the kennels, roadshows and events - each and every day of the week, we had fantastic feedback on how well cared for the dogs are and how clean the kennels are. x

Indeed Shanesmum and I will continue my blitzing today.... it was good although I have got to admit to everyone I sloped off early afternoon to go on a practice bike ride as the London to Brighton sponsored ride we are doing in a couple of weeks is looming - what better way to spend our 21st wedding anniversary!!!!

Any sponsor money raised from doing this will be going towards our desperately needed re-wire at the kennels so if you would like to support us the easy way is to log on to www.justgiving.com/DaybreaksL2B Thanks so much - Ruth x

Despite the fact that it is almost Summer, today was the day for Spring cleaning! Inspired by our smart, new toilet block and office we had a major blitz today, sorting and tidying a huge variety of things and making the kennels much tidier in the process.
Thanks to Norman for taking the very lovely little Susie out to the park this morning. My she is so pretty, but so very nervous of the world at the moment. However, she did really well on her first trip out and will hopefully gain confidence as each day passes.
Dandy also had some time out today as Elizabeth took him out for an afternoon in the park. This gorgeous fella behaved beautifully whilst out, and is a real cuddle monster.
Thank you to everyone who came along today to help out, it was a beautiful day and I think we all appreciated being warm for a change! x

A busy day with the Canine Massage Therapy ladies at the kennels again. Most of the dogs took part so not many left to walk. Liz took the opportunity to take Cadbury off for a nice trip to the park. They both had a great time.

We now have a new window in the office and a bathroom with a door that locks! Thanks so much to the two gentlemen who carried out all the work. It all looks great.

Wonderful to see Bolt go out on foster...he was finding being back at the kennels very stressful. His foster Dad called later to say Bolt had enjoyed some chicken from KFC!

Yesterday I started off the day with collecting Lily May who we homed many years ago to take her to the vets. Her owner has problems getting her to travel but she happily hops in to my car - yay! On arrival at the kennels, all was under control - except a fault with the electrics!!!!!! Dave Bryce came to the rescue mid afternoon and brought along a colleague who is going to help with the new rewiring mission - looks like he can help save us a few thousand too off the estimate of around £15,000 - so a bit less fundraising to do!!!!

I spent a while in the kennel with Susie and she is starting to look less terrified when you stroke her - she is such a poppet! I am off to the office at the Swan today to do some sorting and clearing - a big task eeek!!!!

I had the fabulous news that Jessie is no longer on foster and is homed - YAY!!!!

The new Greyhound Grapevine newsletter should have landed through your letterbox if you subscribe but if you don't and would like to, please give the kennels a call! 0121 782 7702.

It is good to have Ruth back from her holiday...as we thought she soon had the office rearranged! :)

It was so lovely to see Dennis reserved, but sad to have Bolt back at the kennels. Thinking of his family who had to make the decision to return him.

Thanks to Bob for collecting our latest new arrival Susie from the track for us today. She is beautiful but very nervous.

We had to move the two boys Foxy and Camas to the kitchen kennel and run as Foxy has split the end of his tail, he needs more room to wag it! He is a very happy lad!

We managed to get all the afternoon walks done before the rain came...a black cat decided to sit in the middle of the lane as we were walking down with five Greyhounds! Fortunately he saw sense and ran off before they had chance to see him. :)

Best news of the day...Dennis has suddenly found his appetite and ate all his breakfast and dinner! :)

The run was well used with lots of visitors, we had some new volunteers pop along and Tyke and Socks did their bit in seeing who would be cat friendly for potential new owners. I had a de-cobwebbing day as well as re-arranging the office now the doorway has moved! It is SO GOOD TO BE BACK! :-)

We welcomed sweet little Jenny to the kennels (she is so timid) but ohh my she likes her food. The lovely Bingo went out on foster (heres hoping she will find her forever sofa very soon).
The lovely ladies from the Canine Massage Guild were in attendance all day and the Daybreaks residents were well and truly spoilt big time - thank you so much to the ladies, we learnt some interesting facts about a couple of the dogs.

What a fabulous start to the day! Kitty finally home safe and well after what must have been the most awful last few days for Janine and Graham. The first thing most of the visitors to the kennels said today was how happy and relieved they were to know Kitty is ok! :)

Flutter, now called Reggie went home...he does look so handsome on his homing photo!

Cody has also found her forever home, her new Mom and Dad are very happy to have joined the Failed Foster Parents Club. They say she is the most perfect girl. :)

Thanks to everyone who helped out today...it was a nice warm day so a pleasure to walk the dogs. Dennis and Jessie again made the most of the sun, they really are a lovely couple. Happy to watch the comings and goings at the kennels. Dennis knows exactly when it's time for the walks!

It was another very quiet Friday at Daybreaks, but the beautiful warm sunshine cheered us all as we waited for news of Kitty. Dennis &Jessie certainly made the most of being in the kitchen kennel as they were able to lie on the beds, basking in the sun. We had to pull the blinds down at one stage as it was so hot - and Jessie decided that despite the fact she was lying in direct sunlight she couldn't be bothered to move!
The new toilet block looks very smart indeed, and the new office door is great but old habits die hard - I spent most of yesterday walking past it, round the side and down to where the old door used to be!!
Many thanks for the very kind donations of towels and bedding, there is lots to sort through and the Greys are certainly being treated to some very comfy beds - although I wonder if the donation of the Aston Villa duvet cover is more of a comment on their current form!!! Angie x

Everyone's thoughts were with little Kitty and her owners today...hope we hear some good news soon.

Lenny (Glen) came back into the kennels this morning. Sadly his owner has to go into hospital and at the moment we do not know if he will be well enough to continue to care for Lenny. Many thanks to Norman for picking him up for us this morning. Our very best wishes go to Lennys owner.

Had a spot of bother with the lock on the new door to the bathroom...Sara and Sarah were trying to figure out how it worked when they locked themselves in and couldn't get out! We were just thinking about dragging them through the window when Sara managed to open the door...the builders should coming back to look at it next week. :)

Another busy day...Vince popped in at lunchtime; he and Sara took some of the dogs into the run to take photos. It was Dennis and Jessie's first play in the sand, they had a great time! Both had a race around and throughly enjoyed themselves. :)

Billy went home this afternoon and in real style...it's not every Greyhound who goes home in a 1957 Rover! Do hope all goes well for him and his new family. x

Our two new arrivals Foxy and Camas arrived a little too late in the day for a bath...so they have that experience to look forward too! What a super couple they are. They have always shared a kennel, it would be brilliant if they could share the rest of their lives together too. Many thanks to Bob for collecting them for us. :)

The building work is almost finished...the new bathroom looks fantastic and the window for the office should arrive next week. The builders have been very patient with us...especially when offered cups of tea which sometimes never arrived!

A nice warm day, everyone enjoyed their walks in the spring sunshine...

Good news for Dennis, his tail is much better and he and Jessie are enjoying being in the kitchen run. More room for him to wag his tail as much as he likes without bashing it on the walls of the kennel. :)

Four gorgeous little Whippets came to use the sand run today, they loved it! If you are looking for a safe and secure space to let your dog have fun and run free please give us a call on 0121 782 7702 to book a slot. The sand run is open to any breed of dog, not just Greyhounds. :)

Thanks to everyone for grooming all the dogs, they do love the extra pampering! Xxx

What a fun filled day we have had today, with the lovely Honey going off to her forever home and a lovely couple came to see Sassy and took her straight away, Well done to both girls, especially Sassy who has waited so long for her sofa. We had lots of volunteers in to help the day run smoothly, only distraction was poor Dennis who kept splitting the end of his tail, so we had to keep bandaging it up, lets hope the last bandage manages to stay on over night. We moved him into the kitchen run with Jessie to help try to heal it overnight as a preventative measure. We will be having two lovely new boys coming in tomorrow, so please keep checking.

The building work is going very well, but Sassy and Ravi were not impressed with the noise of the small cement mixer especially when they were trying to eat their breakfast! :)

I must apologise to anybody that tried to phone the kennels today and couldn't get through. The electricity was off for most of the day whilst the refurbishment work continues and this meant the phone wouldn't work. The work is progressing nicely, and surprisingly the noise from the drills and tile cutters isn't phasing the residents at all. In fact, Flutter is transfixed by the huge gap that used to be the toilet block wall - he stands staring at it after he has finished his food, I'm not quite sure what he is expecting to come through it bless him!
Nicola, our usual Friday visitor, spent some time with the lovely Dennis and Jessie today. They are such a beautiful couple, understandably a little bewildered but so friendly and loving. Dennis may be 10, but he can bounce around with the best of them when he spots his lead coming and knows its walk time! Let's hope this lovely couple find a home very soon.

We are so grateful to Lachlan's Grandpop for collecting Dennis and Jessie from their home in Bristol for us today. They are absolutely delightful and it is obvious they have been in a home where they were loved very much. Very happy and very affectionate, just love being cuddled. :)

Mister went for his vaccination booster to Fivelands this morning. What a good boy he was...he travelled very well and was keen to look out of the window and take in what was going on outside. He was very brave having his injection. He met a rather grumpy Staffie in the waiting room but didn't take any notice of him.

On my return I discovered Ruth had told the lads making the documentary I would be happy to do an interview for them as she had to pop out! Thanks to Hannah who volunteered to be filmed bathing one of the dogs...Dandy seemed to enjoy being in the limelight! Kyran and Elliot have enjoyed meeting the Greyhounds and learning more about them and the homing process. We wish them well with their project. Little Sarah and Sara P can come out of hiding now...:)

The building work is going very well...the new door to the office looks great. Don't tell anyone but my Skip managed to put one of his feet into the wet cement in the toilet block when I was locking up tonight! I turned around and to my horror there was this lovely paw print! Thankfully it was very easy to smooth over...Bless him, I guess he just wanted to sign his name!! :)

What a great day at the kennels! Fantastic to see Rosie and Jim go home :) Rose was Miss Perfect whilst filling in the paperwork in the office; Jimmy on the other hand was into everything...toys, treats, drawers! Fortunately his lovely family didn't change their minds about taking him home...not even when he tried to get into the drivers seat in the car!! :)) He was just eager to start his new life!

Georgia was reserved again by the family who fell for her a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately they are now able to take her. She is such a lovely girl.

We had some new volunteers who came along to walk the dogs with their support workers, they enjoyed meeting the Greyhounds.

Many thanks to all our usual Monday volunteers and students' for their help today. :)

Well today has been a quiet day at the kennels. Jess came in to bath the lovely Reggie. Honey got herself reserved by a lovely family and Cody and Al went out to Evesham for the whole day with Norman and Debbie (Al now fast asleep with legs in the air). We have heard it has been a busy day at Melbicks for Jill and Paul and the team, with hopefully lots of interest in our greys here at the kennels. A busy day at the kennels! Wonderful to see Rosie and Jim reserved. They were just meant to be together! :)

Kitty has helped her family become the latest members to the Failed Foster Parents Club! It was so sweet to see Kitty and Minnie together...What a happy ending for these two little girls.

Bingo is having a break from the kennels for a few days. She has been a little under the weather the last couple of days. She has two lovely girls to keep her company.

Caroline popped in with Cally to say Hello after her trip to the vets this morning, she looked great! Good news from the vet...Cally is doing well, she has another appointment on Friday. If all continues to go well she won't need any further tests. :)

Many thanks to Norman and Heather for taking Sassy and Mister out to
Leamington for the day. They were shattered when they got back to the kennels...had their dinner and went to bed!

Two beautiful Husky dogs came to use the run today, needless to say they stayed rather a lot longer than the usual Greyhound half hour....so much energy! They had a great time.

It was a very quiet day at the kennels today - maybe being Friday 13th put people off!!

Nicola, our regular Friday disabled visitor in a wheelchair, came to do her usual grooming of the dogs. Her clients today were Honey, Ravi and Flutter. Honey was a little bit wary and didn't get much grooming done, but Ravi really seemed to enjoy his time with her having a gentle brush and plenty of stroking. Flutter lapped up the attention and stood beautifully to be brushed. In fact he was very reluctant to leave and go back to his kennel!
Mister Dandy was up to his usual tricks, pulling the blanket down from the bars of the run and lying down on it! Well, I suppose I wouldn't lie on a cold concrete floor either if I had a choice! He is such a character, and for a big boy walks so well on his lead.
Thank you to the volunteers who came to walk our full house of dogs today, at least the rain held off but what a contrast from yesterday. xx

It was great to see the return of the sun today! All the Daybreaks residents and volunteers enjoyed their walks without getting wet :)

Flutter was not able to join them as he has to rest for a few days after his neutering operation yesterday. He is recovering well.

It was handsome Ravi's Birthday and he enjoyed a walk with our regular visitors from the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit. He walks beautifully on the lead and is ideal to accompany someone who needs a gentle dog to walk with them.

We took gorgeous Foxy Bingo for her vaccination booster at Fivelands vets in Yardley...she was a very good girl, although not too happy when she had her injection... but a treat from Mary the vet soon cheered her up! Xxx

I collected Flutter from Fivelands yesterday afternoon and all the way back to the kennels he had his head out of the window over my shoulder as we drove. He was getting plenty of people smiling at him who saw him! He was intrigued by the giant Poodle at the vets - but who wouldn't be - a very large beautiful pom pom dog!!!!

There is no need to join a gym at Daybreaks as we had a pallet delivery from Burns with our sponsorship food which had to be unloaded as well as all the tables from the van from our tea dance and I did this whilst Little Sarah, Jess M and Denise finished the cleaning and feeding! Great to see our usual Wednesday morning walking crew too x

Had a lovely visit from Max's owners (RIP Blue Beefy) and a beautiful bouquet of flowers - thank you - and we took Socks into the sand run - boy did she fly around!!!! So great to see!

Exciting news - I have booked the room for our 60's Halloween party - details to follow very soon!

I am not in today or tomorrow but I am sure Kate and Angie will update the Daybreaks Diary to keep you all posted xxxx

It's an early start this morning - off to the kennels to collect the most handsome Mr Flutter as he is going to Fivelands in Moseley for his castrate this morning.

The Grapevine is at the printers now and should be back by the weekend and posted out as soon as we can pack and stamp the envelopes! If you don't receive the Grapevine newsletter and would like to, please give the kennels a call or email me at ruth.boswell@rgtperrybarr.co.uk

I thought I would start a new item called Daybreaks Diary. For those of you that know Daybreaks - every day is different!

Today we have the blood bank visiting - a lovely team and it is good to catch up with some of our old residents and their owners too. I will update later as to which of the Trust dogs became life savers too.

I have booked Flutter for his castration tomorrow so he is getting extra treats today!!!!
